5 dead in limo crash on SM bridge

They just ruled it a mechanical and are not pressing charges against the driver.

They said it was a failure of the rear suspension system that caused the fire.

They also said the limo had too many people in it.

If they were carrying too many people and that excess weight contributed to the suspension failing, how can it be ruled an accident?

Did you guys see that the limousine drivers Ex-Wife was claiming that "he was on the phone with her (during the fire) arguing and that the stereo was too loud". It was found to be false. She was trying to send him to prison because she is bitter. I wish they would send her to jail for lying to investigators.

Who's "they"? I haven't seen anything about the limo being over capacity. :dunno

While releasing 911 tapes that conveyed the horror of the May 4 fire, officials said no criminal charges will be filed. Although the 1999 Lincoln Town Car was carrying nine women to a party in Foster City - two more passengers than regulations allowed - it wasn't clear if the extra weight caused the air suspension system to fail, Maskarich said.

They fined the company $7500 for have the extra two passengers (due to lack of seatbelts) however they also stated that the extra passengers had nothing to do with what happened? If the bump stops indeed failed, I'm sure someone is going to be going after the coachwork company. And they in turn, obviously, are going to focus on the extra weight of the two passengers. Now that I'm reading this, I don't see how the extra two passengers couldn't have been considered part of the cause.

They likely had a known weight capacity and the women in question didn't exceed it (assuming said system was functioning correctly).

You can't call people "fat" anymore without getting sued so the coach company couldn't discriminate :)

Were they even asked what their weight was ahead of time? I doubt it.

Yes you can. Your right to hide your weight doesn't supersede the safety of anyone else. Airlines, ships and anything else where weight is the deciding factor for safe locomotion will ask sometimes. Shit, I've done it when I thought my bird was going to be overloaded or if I needed to shift the weight around.

not going to argue with you but no you can't. Go to an airline and observe them asking people for their weight. You don't. They have to make estimates or use other means to calculate weight.

Any nine women planning on wedding photos (in other words, starving themselves for months) are going to weigh less than any average seven guys.

Odds are the thing was built with at least seven fat american men in mind.

$20 says the issue was unrelated to the weight of the occupants.

Perhaps. I'm not an expert in Coachwork suspension.
