500cc CBR from Honda? Will they bring it here?

This bike seems to be Honda's version of a 500 Ninja. My magic 8 ball tells me that lots of people will profess to want the bike desperately and then when it comes out no one will buy it because, after all, why buy the 500 when the 600 is so much cooler? Then, it will achieve cult status and people will go back to complaining that Europe gets all the good bikes and why doesn't Honda bring some of the "good" bikes over here. Finally the circle will be complete when internet forums run rampant with complaints that American riders, or Japanese manufacturers, just don't apprecaite what kinds of bikes "real" riders want/need. We will all feel superior and drink tea with our pinkies extended. Man, this shit was old in the 80's!

Exactly. Parallel twin 250cc per cylinder 500 with standard forks and a single front rotor? It's a Ninja 500. It'll probably be lighter and have FI, but for all intents and purposes I don't see much difference.

man, a 500 dual sport/tard version would be a pretty sweet base to mess with.

What, you mean like the KLE500 that the U.S. never got?

I'm still wondering..Why?...Is the 650 Ninja (or other model's) Too big, but a 500 would get the sale?

Well, since I had a CBR600F and a CBR600F2 in my 20s, but am no longer interested in the new supersport 600cc bikes, have a 26' inseam, routinely ride slower than 90mph, like the width of a twin cylinder motor, enjoyed owning Honda motorcycles, comfortably fit the new-gen Ninja 250 (comfortable rider triangle), but wanted FI and a bit more motor than the 250cc, and now have a post-surgical hip/leg issue that would welcome a bike lighter than my 650R, I would be a seriously interested buyer.

Maybe I wouldn't be enough buying power to get the model sold in the US, but if it was everything that is sounds like it will be, I'd definitely be checking it out.

Honda, if you read this... I'm seriously interested!

noticed that more pics/details came out about this:

The CBR500's supposedly headed to America. I'm as cheap an ass as the next guy, so if this is as cheap and fuel efficient as I think it will be I might need one.

250, 500, 1000. All same pistons? Interchangeable parts? Low cost and easy development. I like.

pathetic.
my 2004 Kawi 636 weighs less than that - and thats a 10 year old bike with 136cc (and more than 60hp) more! :laughing

They say the CBR500 is 470cc so it's 166cc more :nerd

Your bike would cost $10k today and has supersport ergos. Something like 35 mpg? Of course it has better specs in every other way...

They should seeing how you can't get a brand new 600cc repli racer for under $11k any more. And middle weight naked bikes are inching closer to $10k now.

I'd like to see them run a belt drive instead of a chain. This bike is an entry level bike or maybe a high mileage commuter. Not a cheapo racebike. The belt would make it more reliable and less maintainance for that beginner rider.

I've read that the belt drive system is undesirable in low price bikes because it is 1. Heavy, 2. much more costly than a chain drive.

Don't know if this is actually true, but can only think of one low cost motorycle that was belt drive over the years.

I seem to remember only a 440cc Kaw twin with belt

the F pulley, in particular, is much bulkier than a c/s sprocket -
so it's likely too costly to re-engineer the drive side [+ frame?]

Isn't CBR500 based on CB500? I believe it is made in Thailand and was sold in Europe till 2003 or so.

Honda has said nothing official to dealers yet....but they are also not saying NO to us when we ask if it is coming...so.....

Usually they will tell us if something is NOT coming.....so we have our fingers crossed. Be nice to have a mid-sized Honda.

the comments in this thread make me chuckle......
