62-66 Plymouth Valiant

I think your confusing the Valiant with some sort of automobile.

You're buying a hobby. Anything you don't know about the car you will be forced to learn.

Just listening to you I know you've never owned anything that old-if you let it sit for a week between street sweepings, it won't start. Old cars don't sit well.

Heat won't go where you want it (if it ever heats up), power nothing, anemic engine, half the gears your used to, brakes that hate SF hills, everything inside will rattle, forever.

I'd do it.
This, this, this, and this.

And I'd consider doing it, too! :thumbup

Be realistic. If you cant repair a car, pass on this. Repairing and maintaining are two different things. You will grow tired of this car quickly because you will be paying someone else to repair it. I have a customer who has 3 pristine hobby cars. Hubby died, now she has to pay me to keep them going. Every time the bill is 300 to 600$ average every other month on each car. Your repairs will equal a car payment, guaranteed.
I have an immaculate 78 f150 that still needs love every now and then. Great truck, but then again the labor is free for me.

Are you sure you were looking at a Valiant or a Barracuda Valiant (barracuda valiants were only made from 64.5 - 66)

I had a 65 Barracuda Valiant V8 - FUN little car.

HUGE rear window, back seats laid flat....and with the 2 barrel stromberg i was getting 21+ MPG (only like 200 hp).

Easy as hell to work on....but do not get the push button tranny (64.5 only i think and it sucks)

Don't pay much for a valiant. Especially with a slant six. They aren't very sought after by enthusiasts. In fact calling one sexy kinda offends my sensibilities. Put a 340 or a big block and at least it might be fast.

My '61 Chrysler has a pushbutton transmission. Nothing wrong with 'em, other'n being obscure...

huh...always heard they had a tendency to 'pop' out sometimes...

but, I have never owned one...so I am relying solely on rumor and stuff.

Haha, I've got no desire for three four zero or a big block anything. I don't need a fast car, motorcycles fill that for me. This is just something that looks good and can go everyday or every four days.

Nope, just a plain old Valiant. I'll throw up the picture of the one I saw, though they were snapped on the move, not great pictures.

I had a 63 push button slant six valiant back in the early 70's. Drove it for a few years, then passed it to a friend who passed it to a friend, last I heard it was delivering pizzas in sf. It was the beautiful baby blue and the body was immaculate.
Getting to the distributer sucked, but everything else was easy to work on. Only problem (that I didn't cause) was a bad water pump...ye olde plastic impeller couldn't stay on the shaft :laughing

Hahaha, opinions are like assholes and they all stink.

You're young and stupid once-if the wife is okay with it do it. Old cars don't depreciate much, but like bike mods, anything you sink into them you'll never see again.

Ask cycle61 to check one out if you find one you like.

Parts are cheap too-might as well learn how to wrench on it, teach it to the kid.
