If you aren't going to lane share, dont block it for the rest of us!!

I understand that you may not be comfortable lane sharing yet, or at least at the speed that the bike behind you is doing it; and I agree you should only ride to your comfort level, but if there is a bike behind you suddenly that wasnt behind you before move to the left and let him by.

I'll agree. While I don't split as fast as some of you do when I see someone behind me, I'll find the first hole I can and let you guys pass. But then I'll take advantage of it and let you be my blocker sometimes too hehe

Just out of courtesy, I won't split past another rider. I'll just move over into lane 2 and split between 2 and 3.

i dont either unless they aknowledge im there or it is safe to do so. But jumping over to the other split lanes can cause cars to move over for me a little and crowd him. It's for the greater good of both riders

eh.. if you can't endure being held by somebody for 30 sec or 1 min, maybe you shouldn't split in dense traffic. Hopefully they will at some point move over. Just think it could've been worse if they were splitting in an SUV instead.
Nearly bumping somebody's rear tire while they are splitting is not courteous, either.

Yeah.. that's pretty bad, I had a VRod rider (I think) do that to me.. split in the same place between two lanes. That's a really dangerous close pass, if you ask me.

If you're not lanesplitting, but you're in traffic, where is the safest place to position yourself?

Right where you'd be if you were lanesplitting. That way you have room in case sudden braking is required.

I don't split past another biker without waiting a while to see what they're going to do/giving them the courtesy to go first. If they don't make a move after a bit, I'll go by them. If there's no room, I'll change lanes and go by them. Anyone that can lanesplit effectively shouldn't have any problem doing this.

Sure, it'd be nice if they tucked in towards the center of the lane so I could cruise by, but their world doesn't revolve around me - they have to watch out for themselves. Unless they're making moves to intentionally block me, I just deal with it. If they're going out of their way to impede my progress, I might be inclined to execute a dive bomb and present a one fingered wave as I blow by them. :)

i wasnt bumping anyones rear tire.. was quite a ways back.. if i wanted to force my way in there i would, but i ride safely. And it was about 12 minutes

There's a difference between enduring and liking. There are too many self-absorbed assholes out there. Whether it be blocking the aisle at Costco, or hogging the passing lane. I endure it and don't bother getting upset, but they are still largely assholes.

i dont want to dive bomb anyone, and when someone faster comes up behind me i move left for a fraction of a second and wave them by, doesnt affect me. And in the same regard if your not going to split, doesnt mean others shouldnt be able to, if your going to block other riders you might as well be in a car.

I give you 30 seconds and then we're trading paint. The thing that bugs me the most is when people are just posted in the splitting position not splitting. I understand you get better visibility of traffic head that way but don't block my ass. Hahaha I passed some dude on a 51 last week super close, prolly shook him out of his shoes. He saw and heard me but still didn't move If you see a red VTR with a loud ass exhaust coming get the fuck out of my way!! :twofinger

Simple rules:

If there's a bike ahead of you, make sure they are aware of you and know you're there before splitting past. Often, once they see you, they will move over or signal it's OK. (That's what I do.)

When you do start the pass, do so cautiously as the other rider may not have actually seen you or actually made the signal you thought they made. Assume they may move over into you.

If you're splitting yourself and another faster rider comes up behind you, find the first safe opportunity to move back in line and then wave or otherwise signal them it's OK for them to proceed.

If you then pull in behind them and use them as a blocker, remember to maintain a good stopping distance. They may have to slow down fast for some reason or they may even fuck up and you don't want to be part of the mess.

NEVA!!! :twofinger

That is annoying.. but I have pity for them and depending on what mood i'm in. .I'll hang back and pick his riding apart. Toes hanging.. Are thoes gym shoes??? heads not turning... bla bla bla.. Feel sorry that they're not enjoying the ride as much as they could if they just had GOOD POSTURE and real gear!

So how much faster than traffic was he going? How fast did you want to go ?

how fast was traffic? I don't see how your splitting when your going the same speed of traffic. He should just stay in the lane then.
