Adventure riding short rides and BS thread

also, one can always turn a BARF rally into an adventure riding meet-up opportunity. my happy place, Weaver Bally, above Weaverville and the 49er Motel, BARF Hoho party central this coming weekend. think BARF has done the Hoho Rally in Weaverville almost every year since 2016:

anyway, awesome KLR riding and camping on the way to and in Trinity County. photo is last night’s sunset. I had a plan to camp at Bolivar watchtower last night, but decided I needed altitude and shade, pdq, cuz it wuz hot. :ride

I also have a hone made for discs i'll probably try (on one side only, since i'm too lazy to remove the wheel/disc for this. For now.
 
In keeping with the New Adv announcements, here's mine!

2026 KTM 390 ADV X. Its the short one (825mm seat height) that I can get one foot (or 2 sets of toes) on the ground. After a couple hundred miles, we have bonded nicely. Ergos fit me well. Handles surprisingly well with it's "Apollo TRAMPLR XR" tires. LOL! :ride

wow 825mm is 32.5"
I thought my Ibex450 was low at 33.5
I love being able to finally touch the ground, but I'm actually looking to buy a tall seat (+2)which I hope is more comfortable (padding) and easier to go from sit to standing (brings it to same height as my KLR, which I always thought was nicely low (Compared to my sky high dirt bikes! )
Now if i could just find one in stock ...:(
 
Sitting here with a bad back thinking about last weekends ride with @CrazyCooter and @bananachunks - It was mostly a camping trip and we just happened to ride our motorcycles.

I really wanted to try out the CRF300 Rally on some freeway to see if maybe it could be my long haul bike. It's not going to be my long haul bike. Coming home on Hwy 12 into a headwind on some easy rolling hills the bike struggled to maintain 55mph. As I was hammering it in 4th gear the temp warning light came on. I eased off and it went away after a few minutes so all was well.

My nephew and I slabbed up 80 and met up with CC at a rest stop and then bopped over to Bowman Lake road to disperse camp and one of my favorite spots.

BC left after work and still was able to join us before dark. We pretty much hung out and BS'd all afternoon and evening. The only real ADV was the 2 miles of dirt to my spot. The 300 handled the slog up 80 without issue and I was pretty high on the bike and it's ability to hang at 67mph speeds all the way up.



I had a bear visit this site last year so I'm super paranoid. I tried using my bear bag (it worked) but I took a lot of ribbing from the guys about it. They kept telling me the safest place to store your food is under you pillow in you tent :dunno. I still don't know if they were kidding or not. Turns out I think they all just left their food on their bikes. I felt silly, but I got to use the cool URSack Bear Bag.

The next day we rode through Truckee to 89 and around Lake Tahoe. Then over to Ebbetts Pass to another one of my usual dispersed spots.

I've been really bad about taking pictures, but I have a couple.

My favorite one is the afternoon snack. Dayum Mycool......That was some gourmet sheeeit!

We are in the Lassen National Forest, mostly two up adventurin… miles and miles of logging roads. The Camp Fire was here five years ago…

The Cabrito Lassen/Ebbetts weekend was downright dreamy! Both are areas I don't typically get to very often.
The afternoon snack that CC referred to was delicious, especially the yellow bell pepper + pepper jack cheese.
It was fun giving Cabrito a hard time about his URSack, but I have a sometimes unhealthy amount of bearanoia myself (just because I'm bearanoid doesn't mean the bears aren't out to get me). The URSack tie-up refresher was needed, anyway, since I'll be taking mine up to OR for a multi-day hike&camp in the Wallowas at the end of the month.

The only pic I have that has anything more to offer is a shot with the cows in it.

The cowbells (I didn't realize this was a thing outside of SNL) and the creek made for a fantastic and very sleepable white noise. At least for me, and we all know I'm a weirdo.

A great weekend with a great group of people that I don't get to see nearly often enough!
 
half way through a 12 day trip, adventure-izing the BARF Swinging Winger rally in Eureka this past weekend, and hooking that rally up with the venerable BARF End of Pavement rally in Cedarville this coming weekend …

I’m on Whaleback Mountain tonight cuz I thought it may have a good view of Mt Shasta:

Dang, I have not been doing enough riding this year...

@Cabrito have you looked into CRF Big Bore? It has been something I've ruminated on here and there as a possible move from the DRZ should I ever want a 6th grear. DRZ can do 70 (indicated) all day long but it feels wrong.

I'm aware of it, and would consider it. Probably just replace the bike with something else and or just leave it as is for now.

It makes an ok light adventure bike as is I guess.
