All right geniuses...

Stefan showed me this game where you are rolling a ball and everything sticks to it, even people and animals. Your story reminded me of this :)

Can we see pics of the giant ball of metallic objects that are now stuck to the magnets?

It's all boxed up, ready to go back to the dark, evil depths from whence it came--demon magnets!! (In other words, we gave up and just packaged the whole darned thing to have the place that sent us the magnets deal with it. They are NOT amused.)

How do they explain the corpse, and the red paste on the glass as the ubermagnets rip the iron from her blood cells?

:p

Yeah, the image of that briefly ran through my head also. Even better....I wondered if I could get a super-uber powerful electro-magnet and then a bunch of ball bearings, old nails, barbed wire and other icky things. You put a person in between the magnet and your collection of rusty, pointy stuff and then charge up the magnet at will and let the bearings, etc. go one by one. Naturally, I would only do this to a few very select people like Augusto Pinochet (if he were still alive,) pedophiles, and anyone who speaks on their cell phone in a restaurant. I'm sure some horror movie director has already thought of this.

All I can think of when you talk about powerful magnets, is T3 Terminatrix, being stuck to the particle accelerator magnets. :cool

Plus, she's HAWT!! :love

you could always buy new ones and write off the loss as a learning experience. :(

First thing I thought of too. I think that game is called katamari or something...very fun. Too bad about not getting pics. Would have loved to seen the mess you made...

:party Let's hear it for the architects!:thumbup

(any excuse for me to use the party smilie)

I can't believe you guys can turn magnets into something sexual... it's impressive and scary at the same time. :wtf :twofinger

you could always buy new ones and write off the loss as a HYSTERICAL experience. :laughing

Please... this is a once in a lifetime event! :p We get up, we go to work, we make dinner and this goes on for our entire lives without much to interrupt it. You have to enjoy the little things. :thumbup

God damnit, I said death ray and deleted it because I thought it was stupid :p

I know you deleted it, because I originally posted mine to respond to yours, and when I did, your quote didn't take. :p

Isn't that what Valgar posted a screenshot of?

how many architects does it take to separate two magnets?

I think heating it up would be the best bet.

Heating a magnet would disrupt the the linear orientation of its molecules, hence losing its magnetic properties.

Exposing the magnet to an electric field would return it to its linear state.

Do you know exactly what the magnet is made out of? iron, nickel, cobalt, gadolinium?

Curie temperatures:

Iron 770 C or 1418 F

Nickel 354 C or 669.2 F

Cobalt 1121 C or 2049.8 F (this temp is the highest known for Co magnets...)

Gadolinium 20.2 C or 68.36 F (almost at room temp) probably isn't this one

Too late now, but if this happens again you could bring them over here and I can demagnetize the entire assembly for you with our degaussers (doesn't require heat or mechanical shock.)

If it's not gone yet, you could try slamming a door on it. Just make sure both the door and the jamb are sturdy, and non-metallic. Snuggle the item of interest in between the door and the jamb, and have someone with legs like a mule kick it into next year! No, make that the year after next since 2008 is nearly here anyway.
