Pickup driver should be forced to set all of his possessions on fire, be kicked in the nuts by a mule, 13 times, then launched into outer space via trebuchet.

I once hit a small pile of lumber that fell off a truck on HWY 101 in San Rafael while splitting lanes at like 70 mph. The lumber formed a ramp and I got air while in between 2 pick up trucks. Luckily I was wearing my brown pants.

Just asking, because I don't really know, but isn't it illegal to split above the speed limit?

Legal? It's the CHP officer's analysis of your level of safety and traffic awareness. If you keep the delta low (5-10 faster than the traffic you're engaging) and aren't a jerk, the officer will probably let you slide. Or not. :teeth

Given that "normal" speeds on highways around here are 75+, staying at the speed limit can make you roadkill.

Split carefully within your limits and don't race or weave in & out of lanes and you should be fine. Or fined... :teeth

^ seems like the kind of thing you do when you find out your friend is hooking up with your chick.
