another BP thread. Are we doomed?

They will be the first exposed to poisonous, cancer causing chemical gases.

Methane is cancer-causing now?

:rolleyes

More junk science:

Another well-respected expert, Dr. John Kessler of Texas A&M University has calculated that the ruptured well is spewing 60 percent oil and 40 percent methane. The normal methane amount that escapes from a compromised well is about 5 percent.

Since the gas sits on top of the oil, this shouldn't be a huge surprise to anyone. New strike == lots of gas first.

Any way, if the pressure is so high there are huge rifts developing in the sea bed, then this would have happened pretty quickly with or without BP.

:laughing

No doomsday here, just a lot of sensationalist journalism and bad science.

i'd say it's a good time to stuff the pipeline with the bodies of our politicians...

Yes, we are doomed.

Interesting, but considering how much oil and gas has been extracted and consumed over the last century, it's hard to believe the release of a single additional reserve could doom the planet.

In any case, we've got at least another year and a half before we need to worry

I was surprised he actually exists! Apparently he actually focuses on methane in the oceans too. Looks too dorky to be trusted though.

^^ the Myans saw this coming!!:laughing:laughing

No really, I think it's a problem but the fear-monger'ers are out in force with this one. But IF their right, what are you gonna do? What CAN you do? Nothing but sit and watch the fireworks and keep yourself and your family alive as long as you can (we already do that right?)

Oh, I believed he existed, and even said that, but it's obvious the reporter is using those numbers to support his own conclusions. That's where the bad science comes in.

:laughing

Y'know, I really hate most reporters...

:laughing

EDIT:

And I don't trust any newbie scientist who uses 'eluciade' [sic.] in their bio, even if they spelled it correctly, but ESPECIALLY when they don't.

Didn't read the article, but is it really "bad science" or just bad reporting?

Just because it's bad science doesn't mean it comes from the actual scientist.

I'd say it's reporting, but it's a bit more than that, since the reporter is espousing this pseudo-science doomsday scenario.

So, what's wrong with calling it both? :laughing

Yes, too many BP threads have overloaded the system. The kitchen sink will self-destruct in 10 seconds.

Which is worse, sensationalism or a media blackout?

Hundreds of relief workers and cleanup workers are ill from the benzene. Your poison is always in the dosage. One thing for sure, the Gulf and everything 200 miles inland from the Coast will be a wasteland. The East Coast may go the exact same way.

Even you Californians will be in for this ride, America will change. It will not be recognizeable by our ancestors.

Heard this on Coast to Coast Radio (Art Bell). The End is Near !
A juicy Caribbean ripper is about to let loose. :green
