Altho it is clearly printed in both the Drivers and Motorcycle DMV handbook (websight and/or hard copy) :cry

Untill these people(s) experience being up on two wheels themselves, they'll never get a clue what it's like or we have to go through :mad

In honesty, I admit I cage more often than ride :cry However, being a fellow rider, I can not help BUT pan my mirrors and/or surroundings to look out my fellow biker. Yes, I too have been caught off gaurd and had bikers "fly by" :eek :loco

Thank you for coming aboard and stepping up to do the right thing. I've read all the comments on this thread and those of the other board I came from to be here ( FJR Forum ).

I can only speak for myself when I say you are forgiven, but can speak for many when I say "Actions speak louder than words". It's time to walk the talk. As cyclists, we face a much higher element of risk than those in "cages". We need all the help we can get out there and we'll appreciate you doing what you can, with your obviously above average influence, to further our cause.

Conversely, I know we can be our own worst enemies when we abuse the power that comes with being in control of an ultra high performance vehicle. Believe me, it's a constant struggle to keep it within socially accepted limits.

We also need to do our part to keep our riding priveleges safe. To that end, regarding lanesharing, let me share what I learned from a CHP officer:
Keep it to 10mph max above the speed of traffic flow and 30mph max in any case and it stays 'permissible'.
As with any controversial social issue, there are advocates for doing away with the legality of lanesharing. It won't take too many incidents to fuel the fire of lawmakers to seek putting an end to our hard fought and almost exclusive statewide privelege.

As for your upcoming experience of taking the MSF course, I would suggest you get together with some experienced cyclists beforehand in a parking lot or, optimally, an off-road park to get some practice with the basics of bike operation if you haven't ridden before. While the MSF course is very helpful, I have noticed that it can be a bit overwhelming for someone without the basic skills in place already.

Also, keep in mind that motorcycling isn't for everyone, nor should it be. It demands a much higher level of focus, concentration and situational awareness than when driving a car, even though everyone should operate at that level when on the road, whatever you're piloting. A motorcycle is like a bullet, but a car is like a missile and it only gets worse as vehicle size increases.

Like I said, I'm more than happy to continue to help you in your mission to raise awareness of "moto" related issues (ie: lane splitting), and the reasons to appreciate the benefits of bikes on the roads means to us "cagers."

To the people who are still full of piss and venom, unwilling to even let me make good on my promises.......I hope you never make a mistake in your life, because when you do, and you honestly in your heart of hearts regret it, you'll hope that people can find it in them to give you another chance.

Yes, I'm new to California....but so are lots of other people here in the Bay Area. This is a transient city.....many outsiders moving in who aren't aware on the ins and outs of the community and its local laws. I can help you. Live 105 can help you. Honestly, the people at Live 105 are good people, unlike most in this business. They do lots to help the community and give back. They've been serving the Bay Area for MANY MANY years.......don't let one comment, as bad as it was, by one DJ (Me) ruin the good. Let me worry about making this good. Live 105 will support me in whatever it is I want to do.....they're just like that. Not much at this station comes from the top.....one of the reasons I decided to come work here.

So you can see what I mean here. The past is the past, and all I can do is worry about the future. By the way.....I didn't appreciate the one poster who said that I was calling for people to open doors on bikers, take a picture of the carnage, and then send it in for a prize? Holy hell? Who's got a bigger problem, me? or you for even blowing that up like that? What's the matter, the statement as is (joking or not) wasn't extreme enough for you? If that's the case I'm surprised you didn't try to lump kids in there somewhere........my god! :)

I was one of those motorcyclists calling for you and your cohorts to be hung in the town square at high noon for your comments about lane-splitters.

I think joking and playing around is fine. Be rude. Be crass. Be insulting. I don't care. Mocking a crash-victim would be tasteless, but not irresponsible. You crossed the line by ENCOURAGING motorists to injure motorcyclists. Crossing that line is what made your comments totally unacceptable.

After reading your apology on the www.bayarearidersforum.com website, I forgive you for your asinine remarks and accept your efforts to apologize and make amends. I commend you for being man enough to admit that you did something stupid. If you can be man enough to apologize, I can be man enough to forgive. Having integrity doesn't mean that you never screw up; It means that you own up to it when you make a mistake.

Okay. I'll hold you to that. These days, few people place any value on things like "honor" or "promises" or "keeping one's word." I do. So, I hope you honestly have the character to keep yours. You don't need to become a hardcore motorcyclist. But take the MSF course like you said you would. See what it's like to ride a motorcycle. And continue to promote positive things about bikers. (Like pointing out that we are one-less-car causing traffic to get jammed in the first place!)

One of my favorite sayings has always been:
"There is no curse that can't become a blessing. And no blessing that can't become a curse."

if i were a gentleman, i would simply understand that term is outdated and annoying for more than a few women (myself included) on this forum.

I have to say that I am appalled at the wreckless abandon with which you encourage actual physical violence upon a fellow motorist. First, as a motorcyclist, it IS us who are abused by people driving cars and trucks. We refer to those of you who choose not to ride as "cagers" as you are surrounded by a big steel cage. That cage affords you a certain amount of protection. Protection from the elements, protection from recognition, and protection from injury. In drivers ed, you are taught that driving a car is a responsibility, a privilege, and NOT a right, much like riding a motorcycle. You are also taught to think of a vehicle as a loaded weapon. When I and my friends are out riding our bikes on any given day, you had better believe that that is the way that we view you and your fellow cagers. Wielders of loaded weapons. I have known MANY people who have been hit by cars while riding a motorcycle. Some of them have died, all due to the carelessness of someone driving a car. No, they were not going "120 mph down I-35E, weaving in
and out of lanes like those white lines are just there for show." They were traveling with the flow of traffic on their way to work and home. And speaking of paying attention to the white lines, in Europe, not even cars pay attention to them. In Germany, it's not uncommon to see a four lane road turned into a six lane road with traffic flowing at 80 MPH.

The motorcycle industry is growing very fast, but the motorcycle community is very small, and very smart. We are mechanics, artists, doctors, lawyers, police officers, professional drivers, writers, and above all we stick up for one another. We are passionate about what we do, and we are passionate about protecting our rights, and our skin. It would be in your best interest to do a little research.
