Anyone wear dog-tags while riding?

I watched that Mail Call marathon too. i sat at my tv for like 6 hrs strait. R. Lee Ermy makes some funny jokes.

Hell Yah he does, I still can't get rid of the whole Drill Sgt Hartman character out of my head everytime I see him on that show.

"I will rip off your head and Shit down your neck numb nuts" I think that's one of the best lines from Full metal Jacket. :nerd :teeth

cool! scorpio post up the template!

How? I created this on Illustrator. I can probably do it on word though.

Give me a few minutes...

FYI about the blood type thing - the emergency personnel will not go by your tag info with this sort of information. They will draw your blood and type it on the spot in the event that you need a transfusion. This is what my doctor told me when I asked him about getting a tag with this sort of info on it last year.

Great to have one for contact, insurance, instructions and stuff though...

Hey- his sister is in Vacaville....

Maybe you could sell em laminated thru the barf store for a buck or two...

didn't know that about the blood type but couldn't hurt to list? I have allergies listed, blood type and my PCP Dr. info on it. the chains broken so not wearing though so hope my wallet doesn't get self destructed or lost in a crash. gulp. gotta' fix this stuff.

Yeah, sitting here watching the history channel, brought this to mind.

I have an old set of tags I used to wear, but in retrospect it might be a good idea to pull them out and put them on again....

I usually keep my wallet and ID in something strapped to the back of the bike. For quick ID/blood type putting the tags back on might help out if something goes really wrong and the bike is off in the weeds an I'm in a ditch.

A recent poster to ba.moto mentioned keeping a medical tag around his neck with some info on it.

Anyone else wear anything for identification and such?

My mom didn't ask too much of me when I said I wanted to ride ... but one of the things she told me I had to do at risk of being flogged (yay!! flogging) if I didn't was keep an emergency contact list on me ... which I keep in my wallet ... I usually keep my wallet in my leather jacket (as i think if i go down, the jacket will be closer to me than the bike) ... most people I ride with on a regular basis know I have this card. I dont like wearing necklaces almost at all, but especially when riding, the idea of having something metal around my neck just makes me nervous ...

I bring my wallet with me, but I usually stick it in the trunk. It has stuff there just for practicalities: money, cards, ID, whatever. I usually throw it in when I check for the garage door opener and the fast track, and some food and water. I don't like stuff in my jacket that's distracting.

I like the dog tag idea, cause I think they're kinda cool. But I'd never wear them, for that reason. Just doesn't seem cool to wear something cause they're cool. My whole family came from the Service, also, so I don't want to make light of the sacrifices that they gave.

As far as medical info and such, hell if I get into an accident, I just figure that's the end. Maybe it makes us feel better or closer to other riders when we recommend proper gear and stuff like this, but cmon, let's be real. The medical people if they get there won't care what you are wearing, and it probably wouldn't matter one bit anyway. If we really thought we needed this, we wouldn't be riding, would we? Well...:) Who knows...

More importantly, ride with a buddy and have a satellite cell phone, which I don't. But ride with a friend. Which I don't always, either.

Until recently the only thing that fit in my trunk was my camera ... I made a custom foam thing w/the shape of my camera cut into it, so that my camera had a safe place to me (like hell i was gonna ride w/a backpack ... or w/my camera in the backpack ... if i fall, at least SOMETHING may survive...) ... I recently sold the camera so now I need to look into making the trunk "stuff" safe so that i don't lose things down into the battery compartment (unless i wanna carry an alan wrench set on me) ...

One of the reasons I haven't gotten rid of my cellphone is because I ride ... the idea of falling or having an incident and have no means to contact anyone scares me like crazy, it's the reason I got one in the first place (i lived out in the middle of no where and was worried if my car broke down i'd have to walk 20 miles w/my son). I just wish my other friends would get cellphones so that when they get in wrecks they don't use up all my minutes and cost me lotsa money.

Large ziplock bags would probably work as a trunk liner.

Cell phones are good, but they don't seem to work where riders like to ride the most. In fact the range of these things is almost rediculous. That's why I mention a satellite cell phone. They are supposed to work almost anywhere.

Life and disability insurance are good options also, but I don't like to bet against myself.

Hmm yeah true. I've not done much riding since I got to norcal so I haven't tested my cellphone range. Wasn't an issue in socal.

And, just in case you're abducted by space aliens, you can now get a dog tag that will show how to get back to Earth!

http://www.earthbounddog.com/

There's even a money back guarantee... if you're abducted by aliens and don't make it back to Earth, you'll get your money back!
(Don't know if the $12.99 will be enough to buy a bus ticket home from Alpha Centauri, though).

"Picture yourself lost in the galaxy...UFO sightings and Alien Abductions are on the rise...Will you return to tell the story?
In case of alien abduction these dog tags may save
your life. The crucial data an alien will need to get
you back to Earth is die stamped into these dog tags.

The design is based on NASA research for the Pioneer 10
Space Mission that used a gold plaque attached to the
craft to inform any Extraterrestrials of it's (sic) Earthly origin.

Engraved with several methods of locating Earth
in the Galaxy, an alien pilot does not need to
understand any human language to use this
information."

I think this might have been exactly what the ba.moto post was talking about....Much more useful info on these!

I had one of these around my neck when I had my accident. They kept asking me all kinds of questions that I knew were on the fucking tag so I asked why they didn't get the tag off me and read it. The fireman said, Oh, I thought it was a work ID. I now keep everything in my wallet. The Sunnyvale copper found my DL, reg, and insurance info no problem.

Cheers.

HELL YEAh I wear my dog tags , just in case you know. Plus when I was in the service , I was brainwashed to never forget them or suffer the consequences.:teeth
