BARF community: pay it forward

Poor Berto. In all seriousness he did a lot (see what I did there, Berto?) for me as a young/dumb/new rider/racer and I know that he's done the same for others, including some guy named Siggy who I guess won some stuff. Definitely an asset to motorcycling and BARF.

one time i was really cold and redsix let me spoon him and let me put just the tip in

Connie took me on my first mentoring ride, when I was a danger to myself and others, and has offered to ride with me many times since.

Gary J did more for me than I can list in a single post. :rose

Solomon agreed to be my SPOT help message contact.

N8 drove me from San Mateo to Tracy to buy my Versys. He also rides to places like Coalinga with me, where it's 100 degrees (Seriously, how do people live there? :wtf ), and he doesn't complain much about my choice of diners.

Kurt helped a lot with my decision to buy a Versys, and he patiently answered a series of mind-numbingly boring questions about his bikes when I was trying to make that decision.

I could go on, but it's late and I'm sleepy. :|

greener

being mostly out of the bay area, my list is a little bit shorter, but i can definitely add a couple, both related to my first time riding in the bay area, barely 2 months into my M1, and taking a shot at 680 during friday night rush hour (mistake!), rolling into libmo an hour or so after the meet started:

Connie, for (repeatedly) making sure i was okay to make the ride back to my hotel, and checking to make sure i make it back alright from the other libmo meets i've made the drive/ride to (it HAS been awhile...).

with the stress of that night, i don't remember who the others were that helped; i know a couple of the guys were nice enough to give my bike a once over to make sure IT was okay for the ride back, and one of them even went out of his way to lead me back to 680 when my GPS decided not to work (guess it liked skipping down the freeway even less than me or the bike did).

In '99, after 12 years of riding, I had to give it up; lack of decent health insurance coupled with having two kids for whom I was responsible made riding a non-option.

In '08, Ms. took up riding and persuaded me to take her newly-acquired Ninjette for a "test ride." I was reinfected with moto-lust, and I had a newbie to mentor, so I trolled the intrawebs for current info.

BARF delivered, in spades! A perfect blend of meatspace and online community, more information that I ever could have imagined.

In '09 I saddled up again. Rusty as hell, but BARF's resources provided endless tips in terms of techniques, roads, and group rides; I was able to quickly get back up to (my) speed.

Before BARF I wasn't comfortable lane-sharing; I worried about breakdowns; I didn't know about choice routes; meets like the Friday Night Run only existed in movies as far as I knew. BARF made my riding world better and bigger.

At first, Mrs. was more than puzzled about how much time I spent here. I started reading her choice bits, then she started perusing BARF herself. She was impressed that as much as we scrap with one another online, when the hammer comes down and someone needs help, BARF provides. Impressed enough that in '10 she came down from the pillion and got her own M1 (after MSF, as BARF dictates!).

In '10, I had a stroke that knocked me out of riding for a bit and left me feeling disconnected and at loose ends. Connie's example gave me inspiration; I put together a proper chase-truck and followed rides. I got to hang out with riding friends and be useful at the same time, and I believe it was a very important factor in my recovery.

Toatally feel you Cootz

Started this thread a while back when the Sexy Albino and SuperMike saved a bike :love
BARF Heroes

and Berto has never been inappropriate with me :x

Didn't a bunch of people get together once and buy bikes for some kids after theirs got stolen.. or something?

I've been given so much from BARF, that no matter what I try to do to pay that back, I'm always operating at a deficit.
When my stalker re-appeared a few years back, BARFers came together to build a fence and a gate to keep him out (and it worked, too!)... and so many other BARFers offered to take me in, buy a security system that I could pay back later, provide an Akita guard dog (how I would have loved to bring that big boy in to nosh on the stalker just a little bit...), mailed me alarms for my windows and a stun gun :)banana)...

SFCootz came out to my house on a couple of occasions to help me tackle some really big problems I couldn't sort myself... :love

99% of my friends are BARFers... and they're the best friends I've ever had. Truly the best/weirdest society has to offer... :)

What I love most about BARF is the sense of Family... if one of us is hurt, there's ALWAYS going to be a BARFer willing to help out. Doesn't matter who you've pissed off in the past... all that gets set aside when one of us is down.

I love this place.... :love
Great thread! :thumbup

i got to watch out, according to this thread i sound like a decent human being. cant have that.

I haven't even been on BARF all that long and the list is already too hard to assemble. Here's a stab at it, but I know I'm missing a bunch:

Connie: for being Connie. Seriously, the amount of time/money/anguish you've saved people is astounding.

Kurt: for being such a good ride/rally leader, and for always having your head on straight and giving such good advice.

Gary (RIP): For leading all of those fun "True Grit" rides, and for being such an incredible human being.

Luckett: For helping to show me some of the fun goaty stuff when I first started riding around here. We need to ride together more.

The Postwhores: For keeping the Kitchen Sink from becoming as insane as General has become.

Stan: For providing BARF with a never-ending supply of lightly-used, well-modified, and perfectly maintained bikes.

tzrider: For having the most level-headed responses to everything, and always offering sincere, helpful advice.

HappyHornet: For being a ray of sunshine on the cloudiest of days. You're an angel!

Motojen: For keeping the PW distracted :)leghump) so they don't realize how inane most of my posts are.

Beau: For showing all of us what classified ads are SUPPOSED to look like. You're an artist, sir.

Lastly, Budman and all of the FGT Mods: For making all of this craziness possible. Seriously, you guys deserve a lot of credit. Thank you!

Like I said, I am undoubtedly missing A LOT of folks. You all know who you are, so don't be offended :twofinger

no way i could possibly name all the people that have helped me thru the years; but a few stand out as just having gone above and beyond

Superhawk: years back he had an open invite to do a minibike trackday at the Stockton go-cart sized track. the man let me (and another barfer "scottyducati") ride one of his bikes all day. i even crashed once.... the man wouldnt take a penny of my money. i was a super poor ass college kid at the time and OMG was that a relif! :laughing anywayz, long story short, he sure caused me to have the bug for minibikes.... now that i'm more financially established, and several thousand in the hole into minibikes - i'm not so sure i should be thanking him...... but he's STILL at the top of my list for generosity from barfers

Manimal: just a really cool guy, and one of the nicest guys i've ever met; who also contributed heavily to me getting into minibikes. even put the guy in my will. yes, that hardcore nice of guy :thumbup

OFG: would be wrong not to include his wife as well, considering i'm sure all his parties were with her approval! awesome parties, a damn fun guy. for sure a Jedi titty master :boobies the way this man can talk to women... i honestly believe that he could be handcuffed in the back of a police car, and talk the female arresting officer out of her clothes. the man is an artist; truely.

Bonerov: again for the epic parties, and for being an all around great guy, and one hell of a rider. so happy he got a good camera setup on his bike this season - cant wait to go on some rides with you bro!

Cat and Pete: ok forget Pete, its cat that makes the mac and cheese to die for! j/k Pete! great parties. epic fun parties, very giving people.

DJnick: damn i've known this foolio for the longest time! I cant imagine a nicer guy; i challenge ANYONE to get into an argument with Nick. i really just dont think he is capable. so positive, always a good guy to talk to; can virtually always get me in a better mood when i'm feeling down. and, i'll add, one hell of a rider!

Connie: this girl has just done so much for this community. roadside angel organizer, a good group ride organizer (perhaps at times a bit more organization that necessary hahha), and an all around level headed gal. so glad she has gotten into racing these past couple of years, way to go Connie!

Elskipador: while during most of our interactions, i was paying him to talk to me lolz he still is an awesome guy who knows his mechanics well, and is always there to help out as best he can considering his busy schedule. this man hooked up the good tyres for me on several occasions, and has helped me, and many many others with thier motos. big props Shawn!

F4ichic: even on days when there is piss in her Cherrios, i still love this brit! back in the day riding Mines Road on the regular, she always made the rides that much more fun. she is blunt and to the point, which gets huge props from me. no unnecessary sugar will you recieve from this gal! a large contributor to the forum; let Violet "barrow" her gear for over a year before we eventually "bought" it from her (money we gave her for the gear went straight to Carries An Axe donation!). again, just above and beyond.

horsepower: because of her, i got out to RFR for 3 trackdays last season. one of the most fun lovin' girls i've ever met, and one of the most 'real' girls i've ever met. she really has got a good grip on life. and is also the fastest female street rider i've ever had the pleasure of fliming. :ride

as for the rest of you all :twofinger
