BARF getting a poser rep.???

You know, something about that post strikes me as someone TRYING to troll.

I can't put my finger on it, but it seems odd....

13 hours? Anyone on the Jan 18th ride want to chime in about how long it actually took?

Very interesting. I was there from beginning to end. I left home in Mountain View at 9 to make the meet at 10. I got home at 10:30. I was probably the last to get home of those of us who remained till the end.

We left Chevron about 10:30 just to be sure that everyone who might have been late wouldn't get left behind. We hit the road and didn't stop until we got to Hog Island Oyster Co. When we got there, everyone dismounted and had the usual cigarettes, small talk, unwinding, and photos taken. Those who were not up to eating oysters went along to Tomales in search of non-shellfish cuisine. Before the group left, info was exchanged about regrouping after lunch.

Jimmy and I left the oyster eating group to head to Tomales to enrich our oyster appetizer experience with some sandwiches. The rest of the oyster eating group caught up about the time we finished our most excellent sandwiches. At this point, I don't know how many riders were with us and how many left. There were a few who met the whole group at Hog Island.

The ride was to end there but there was talk of riding Skaggs. Those of us who had nothing else to do, decided to go to Skaggs.

After leaving Tomales we made a gas station stop as most of us had to fuel up before Skaggs. With all the bikes and cars trying to gas up, that took about 10 minutes. Once fueled, there was a 5-10 minute wait for last minute restroom use.

We then rode to the gas station before the one lane road at the beginning(?) of Skaggs. Another rest stop and regroup. We made sure that everyone who was at the last stop caught up and another bathroom, cigarette, water break. All of us who didn't know the area had questions that we got answers to.

After Mistyz accident, those that remained were those pictured at Edels and GG bridge. I think someone who was not on the ride gathered information from the posts and created a story.

There is a few things about the SBF post that do not make sense. The author says he/she is new to the area, but has done that exact same route before. And it took he/she 6 hours. It didn't take 13 hours as the author mentioned. My total round trip from Mountain View took 13 -1/2 hours. And yet the author doesn't know the roads. Anyway...

I don't know about the author, but my trip included lunch, dinner, stopping to help a fellow rider, waiting for other riders with less experience to catch up and not get lost, making friends with a lot of new people, reinforcing existing friendships, and one hell of a scenic ride.

I think for most of us, it's not just about the ride. It's everything else that comes with it, good and bad, including people like the author of that post. If the ride was initiated under the guise of being a "hardcore" ride with no stops for fuel or food, I can see how someone might complain. But then again, that sounds a lot like a track day. I've never been to one so I really don't know.

Also if this person really took a good look at BARF, before coming out for the ride, he/she would notice the pictures are of riders taking breaks and socializing. If the author was under the impression that BARF rides were balls to the walls rides, he/she might see more action/riding photos in the photo section.

I have nothing against a challenging ride, but there comes a point where that challenge crosses the line of safety. Everyone rode at their own pace, except for Sinh, who was sweeping for most of the ride. If this ride was not challenging enough for the author, anyone there would have gladly given him/her directions to anyplace the author wanted to go. But then again if the author found our ride unchallenging he/she could have gone to the track, where the rest of us wouldn't be at risk.

Very nice Kevo :thumbup

I for one don't really give a rats ass what this guy thinks of BARF. His voice is one in . . . what. . .a couple thousand?? The masses have spoken. LONG LIVE BARF!!!!!!

i cant believe that guy insulted holeshot and the rest of the BARFers.

j/k

who cares what he thinks, all he did was go somewhere else and ask for another riding group, there was nothing insulting about it and i would have done the same if i didnt enjoy myself with a group that i tried out.

This guy , going to the "square tire"
smile140.gif
forum and complaining about the BARF ride , not being hardcore enough in the twiesties !!! O man , thats just to funny !!! :laughing :laughing :laughing

Thats a troll post at sbf. Fools just trying to talk shit on the side making it sound like he is asking an honest question...

I rode with barf out at berryessa once. I did b group and some guys were almost touching knees down. I can only imagine what A group was doing. Plus, we just stopped to wait, regroup, and then we were out. That pussy should roll out with those A group guys from the berryessa ride and then see whats up, I dont think he'd be talking shit then.

After refueling at the little gas station in Jenner, I parted with the group of riders going up to Skaggs. I am pretty sure that no Roy, or a ZX6/7R rider, was present as I watched the group headed off to the highland.

There might have been a Roy at the Tomales lunch stop, but he never was at the Jenner gas stop. Kevo is right. The guy made up parts of his post. Then again, who cares.

"...can barely make a corner without panic braking..."

Here is another crap. I had the pleasure of following Weyland, Nitro, and Agent66 for a while. I never saw a breaklight flicker where it shouldn't. You guys had really graceful lines through them turns:thumbup Sure gave me somethings to think about. From my point of view, you three seemed so well choreographed in your movements, I described it to a non-riding friend of mine as, "They are robocops on wheels," "They are damn machines in those turns.":laughing

You know a "VFR" is not a euphanism for "Big dick" right?

Who gives a damn about "rep"?

When you go on a BARF ride, do you have fun? Then do some more.

Do you not have fun, but enjoy the company? Then organize your own BARF ride.

Do you not enjoy yourself at all? Then excercise your right to not show up to any future rides.

Beyond that, what the hell does it matter? :confused

amen brother :teeth .. :laughing :laughing ....

u know what concerns me the most is that I met Robert r1 when i rode up to the wall/grizzlypeak .. he was carving it ... im like .. omg ..... crazy ass shit ... :wow

personally .... i thought it was coo .... u go at ur own pace .... thats one thing ... if u need that for an adrenaline rush ... more power to you man .. :thumbup

but to complain about "BARF" because barfers who arranged the ride and those barfers who came along (quite possibly newbies or people who like slow or medium pace) chose to do some socialization or whatsoever they did ..... iS Just PLAIN STUPID AND LAME! ......

dude.. u ride like a pro and i wish i could be like that later on ... but shit ....... if ur going on a big ride like that .. dont expect everyone to tear it up like u do ...... go on the hardcore rides ...... and check the board more often .... PM someone who u think is knowledgeable and make the effort to meet them......

dont whine and complain ...

also, someone who complains about riding with friends, shucking fresh oysters on the glorious sunny NorCal coast, etc. has their priorities way screwed up. spending many hours on the road is a dream and what many wait all week for! ya' gotta' stop and smell the roses sometimes lest later on you find you missed what the world has to offer entirely.

I think it really comes down to the fact that he had different expectations from the ride. BARF is a HUGE group that's concentrated in one area. There are numerous rides going on all the time. I just think it would be better for new members and existing members if the Riders were posted in a format by the initial poster/organizer.

Example:

Day: 1/21/03
Meeting Location: Starbucks off N. Main and Treat Blvd. Walnut Creek
Time: 11:00am
Destination: Alhambra Valley Road, Bear creek, Skyline Redwood and back through with reverse route.
Type of Riders: Advanced/aggressive riders only.

A format such as above give a CLEAR sense of the ride planned and would eliminate confusison. As BARF gets bigger the format need to be more tidy.

heheh i read that post on the sbf forum tonite. and it made me laugh. in pretty much every eresponse this guy got it handed to him. "barf isnt so bad" "not everyone hasd to tear it up."
yay way to go. barf is grrreat. i like it more than any forum just because of its diversity!

I like the idea, it would help post rides too that would make it clear when the intensions of a newbie or an advanced ride. I know steve's got a lot on his plate, but it'd be cool to see a form that goes with the group ride forum that would allow the initator to fill in information in a standard way so that it gets posted in said standard format. Just a thought.

Let me chime in here that most BARF rides DO take too long for my taste. Often we stop to take pictures, eat, smoke, gas up... but it all depends who leads the ride. V4 Pilot leads a good, no-frills ride. Gary Jaehne does, also.

The Mines crew (which I'm part of :teeth) is more of a social event... that takes the whole frickin' day. One time we did a "non-smokers" ride and it was quick... we were done by 1pm. BUT sometimes, BARF is about hanging out, catching 2nd-hand smoke, and admiring bikes. I'm OK with that.

Robert's suggestion about the Ride Plan Description is Great. There should be an easy form that we can fill out and create a group ride with.

why people bother with bikes like a vfr or other slow ass biek that's called sport tourers? i checked out this oriental guys vfr at woodside with the undertail pipe and thought it was cool but after asking how much hp and it weigh, i laughed my azz off. for cheaper or more money, he could of gotten a kick ass gixxer or r1

LOL... some "oriental" guy? :laughing :laughing
