Best Shotgun for Home Defense?

Under the laws in Texas, deadly force can be used to stop someone fleeing from the commission of a felony.

Anybody want to see felonies per capitia in California drop by 10%?

:rant

My favorite part is the part they dont mention in the article, where the guy was killed on school grounds, so being practical Texans, the had all the kids come out of class while they dragged the body around so the kids could poke it with a stick while they shouted, "Dear Students, Do Not Become an idiot communist like this man so this will not happen to you. God Bless America and Have a Nice day. Please Remember the Alamo on the way out, we will see you all at the Superbowl Party in January."

Erich, the 120lb. black German Shepard Dog. Almost tore the dudes hand off. Also bit him badly on the ass. That sneaky dog would never bark. He'd just wait patiently on the other side of the fence.

Smartest thing my dad ever did. Teach "brandy" not to bark. :cool Same thing happened when I was about 6 years old.. Couple teens were in the creek, throwing rocks.. One broke the window, and knocked it out. Then decided to hop the 8' fence to "explorer the damage". He was met by a 85 pound German Sheppard. Needless to say. He required over 100 stitches in his legs and right arm.

I don't think even a Glock vs Sig vs 1911 thread could have legs like this thread does :laughing

JHC just go buy a cheap fucking Mossy at Big5. It'll likely just sit in a closet like most other peoples (BARFers esp) guns and never see anything more menacing than a tri-pod and a DSLR camera :twofinger

Mossberg 590A1 SPX w/ M9. It is, all at once, the most awesome and the most retarded thing I have ever seen.

That reminds me...my friend got a 1911 with a rail, and he bought a god damn bayonet for it. It's like 3 inches long. Why would you mount a pocket knife to a pistol :p

See dictionary "Insult to Injury". Now if he uses it on a perp, great. Otherwise the insult is to nothing more then his wallet.

True story: Visiting my friend Silvia earlier this week, she brings up that she's had a stalker.

I'm thinking, some dude she went on a date with that keeps calling.

She means, totally freaky dude who tried to force her way into her house and after fighting him off, he later attacks her on the way to her car, she gets the cops to arrest him, and it turns out he's a mental patient escaped from a nearby facility (!).

Point of the story is, he's trying to great down the door. She (unfortunately) has taken the slightly paranoid measure of keeping her ammo and guns at opposite ends of the house - only has time to grab either her rifle, target pistol, or 12 guage.

She grabs the 12 guage - no ammo, no time to get it. Runs to door:

'Listen to this you motherfucking asshole' (pumps shotgun). 'Break in and you get a 12 guage between the eyes!'

He runs off.

Proof that just the SOUND of a shotgun is enough to do the job sometime :thumbup

She has since moved, the guy is locked up, and her ammo is in the same safe, in a different compartment... and she keeps a tazer by the door, and has infra-red cameras too.

Creepy.

Has anyone mentioned the scatter of a shotgun at 'house ranges' is very small to the point that you may as well be winging off 9mm lead? You're better off using it as a club unless the barrel is short enough to be illegal in all 50 states, and god help your wrists if it is. Mobility for corners? Hmm.

9mm? Lets see, one 9mm projectile vs. NINE 32cal projectiles going at 1250fps. That's a tough one.

So you're throwing in with T-1 Thunder on this argument? Interesting choice.

It's more about the intimidation factor.

Pump action garners some respect.

:laughing

Wouldn't know why. That only indicates the reload will be slow as fuck and more liable for jamming when the adrenaline hopped shooter doesn't rack it completely.

I didn't read the thread before replying...3rd page already on a 100 posts per page, so, was just wondering if the point was made about the scatter or not. :p

Huh? Explain please.

Previous thread on this topic. He insisted shotguns were the shiznits for various reasons despite proof to the contrary. The main one being the scatter at 'house ranges.' You're just going with a different theory of why it may be better, the counter argument would be more mass+more velocity > the sum of the parts that hit+the lower velocity. Assuming you hit at all.

00 buckshot spread is less that 1" per yard traveled. Usually, depending on ammo, you'll see about 5-8" at 10 yards.

Why?

Less likely to need a follow up shot with a 12 ga slug.

Easier to point, harder to miss, especially under pressure.

Would you gamble on taking an ounce of lead to the chest?

Yea, that's the point. Where in your house would you ever be shooting more than, say 5 yards max? In my house the longest shot I'd reasonably take is from the middle landing to the first floor. Less than 10 feet. So is a 30" barrel long gun tactically more advantageous than an 8" handgun?
