Best sport tourer on today's market?

Ammo_Can.jpg

:teeth

Seriously though, once it has a Sargent seat on it, it will be perfect. 10 hour days are pretty easy. No good for 2up though.

:thumbup

that's dope! Gotta love the ammo can.

50+ mpg, 200+ mile tank range? Check
Upright, all-day-comfy seating? Check
Fully-faired for wind protection? Check
Metal tank for tank bag? Check
Wears a pair of saddlebags like Richard Simmons wears Spandex? Check
A lithe sex machine in the twisties? Check
Bulletproof reliability? Check

Behold, the ultimate sports tourer.

Just because you can sport tour with a bike, it doesn't mean the bike is a sport tourer.

Either that or I was talking about the Beemer in the background.

Not the newest bike on the block, but still a worthy sport-tourer. A lot of the bikes previously mentioned I would call straight up Touring bikes. My only issue with this bike for touring is that the high pipe gets in the way of side bags. I could always take the Micron off and put the stocker back on, but then it wouldn't quite sound the same. Maybe if I were going cross country...

SPORT-Tourer: K1300s. I will keep up with the sprotbikes in the twisites
Sport-TOURER: K1300GT. Two-up, and the sprotbikes still won't have time to light up at the junction.

But, yes ... I'm biased

The Kawi Versys is a nicer sport touring bike.:ride Unless your looking for lots of torque or power. I thinks it's better than the Honda v700.

the R1200RT isn't the fastest Sport Tourer in the market and wasn't designed to be...

but it's fun to ride all day, comfortable, and able to enjoy the scenery and still manages to be sporty enough in a gentleman's way....

one of those bikes that can make ya wanna keep going past your intended destination and ride , ride, ride...

i'm biased tho cuz it's one of my all time favorite motorcycles...:cool

i like the versys too which is a much better option than the f650gs....

So, what's the best sport tourer on today's market, where the criteria is:
A) handling in the twisties (keeping upmwith the sport bikes)
B) creature comfort: sitting position for full day rides, heated grips, saddle bag options, etc.
C) comfy for wife on back

Thx
Easy, FJR FTW!!!:banana
Inexpensive to buy & maintain. (Great used ones starting @ $7,000, new ones for $13,500)
125/88 HP/FT-LB @ the rear wheel. (Enough to haul yer spouse and all Their possessions through the high Sierras with ease.)
26,000 mi valve checks.
300 mi fuel range. (Though 265's the most I've mustered.)
Shaft drive.
Great handling stock, but can be improved by Mr. Moss & others.
Smooth motor. (Like it's electric!)
Incredible comfort w/ a big ass adjustable wind screen.

I dun picked up a used one for $8,500 last February, and put over 16,000 mi on the thing without have'in to do shit except gas, tire, & oil. :thumbup (Oh yeah, and fork springs.) :rofl

Agreed....Love mine.
I had a bit of a vibes at 4k, but a PCIII smoothed it out. Like most FI bikes these days they lean em out for EPA

Sounds more touring than sport-touring.. :teeth

Depends on the wife. I searched and searched for the same criteria, and the only good compromise between my needs for handling and the comfort of my princess was R1200RT. Nothing else under 600 lbs even came close.

Thet's for her though, your wife might be more tolerant.

If I were looking again with a more durable sweetheart, I would be seriously looking at Kawi's new Ninja 1000 with optional factory side and top cases.

Nice clean ST2 !
My ST4 is the same color, but I got mine as a basket-case. Have it fully operational, but not tricked out at all - dead stock it works great. Love that motor.
Thanks :teeth
The fours are very nice, good for you on bringing her back :thumbup
Have the suspension done and she'll be a different bike altogether.

This is what i'm thinking about doing next, but with out the box.

I think a lot of people here have confused touring with sport-touring. BMWs? Really?

And I don't care how well you keep up with your sportbike friends, I've watched Goldwings do the same. :twofinger

sure, a bmw....i like the comfort of the sport TOURing side that still offers a sane amount of handling and motor...

anything can be toured on including a ninja 250 to a gixxer but some of the SPORT touring side doesn't offer the comfort for ME for long distance...

And that is completely fine but what you have there is a touring bike not a sport touring bike. Nothing wrong with that but if long distance comfort is the primary objective, you are stepping away from sport-touring.

Again, there is nothing wrong with that but we are talking about two different things.

That's the big thing...Terms like Sport...mean what the speaker thinks is Sport.
Terms like comfort...depends on what the speaker is comfortable with. Which is hugely depending on the speakers physical shape/condition, and the bike trip time and distance.

(on that note, I get sore/stiff on short trips, if the trip goes three days or more, the sore/stiff goes away, and the body gets comfortable with being on a bike)

Anyway...Comfort is create-able...What hurts? What made it hurt? Change the offending item, it's easy, like cosmetics.

I ride a 1993 CBR1000F and it's a sport touring bike. I really like how comfortable it is even with a passenger. The ergonomics aren't bad and it's decently powerful.

I'm in the market for a new bike and there are 2 types that I'm looking at it. Either an Enduro or Sport Tourer. I was wondering if anyone here can help sway me in either direction.

I feel like I would love to have a light bike with the ability to go offroad, but at the same time a big comfortable bike that I can use to bring my GF places too makes life so much easier.

What STs are on the lower end of the price spectrum? I'd really love an RT but am looking at all other ST options as well, FZ1.

If I got a enduro it would most likely be one for ~2k on craigslist. I'm thinking of financing a ST bike if I go that route though, or getting one for around 4 on craigslist.
