If the government was truly concerned with saving fuel and the environment, they would sponsor roadside tire pressure checks, free of charge. I'll bet at least 45% of the vehicles out there are riding around on underinflated tires, getting poorer mileage as a result.

Why would he just randomly make something up? He's just relaying something he read.

I am not accusing or assuming that he just made something up ;) - I am simply stating, and will state again, that the idea that enviro issues defeat a speed limit change is false. Period.:teeth

:teeth Thanks for the posting of those articles - no disrespect intended, but they do nothing to demostrate the validity of a current eco based argument against speed limit removal - The 70's shift to a 55 was in large part due to OPEC issues, and that is no "new" news to me....however that change was also due to the ninny lawmakers who were "fighting" for a safer roadway - wasn't it the Carter administrations DOT chairwoman who made some of these federal shifts based on her LAME view of roadway usage? Anyway, she / they are the reason that for so long car speedometers were "limited" to showing 85 as the top speed. Haha, how many times have they been pegged!!!

Current speed limit law maintenance & enforcement has nothing to do with eco issues or fuel availability.

LASTLY, NONE OF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH REMOVAL OF IDIOTIC DRIVERS WHO CLOG THE ROADWAYS.

It happened again. A moron in the carpool lane in a green dodge is going 60, I pull out to pass, he speeds up, I get in behind him again to go around the car that we ARE NOW OVERTAKING - and he slows down - So I drop to 3rd and gas it on a pass up to about 95 for a good gap and that's that. Bye bye assh*le.

It happens every day.
