car blocking driveway

I have friends who live in SF and share a 2 car driveway with the unit above them. They have a similar curb and have had people overhand their driveway. When their neighbor parks in the driveway there is no way to get their car around the neighbor's car and the one overhanging the driveway. They do call to have the car removed.

Also, this ticks me off, those small curbs are for motorcycles!

Is it blocking the driveway, yes.

Should it be towed, maybe, maybe not.

Is is a huge waste of LEO time in the middle of the night, yes.

send an email to your local parking enforcement(DPT etc...) and leave the LEO's available for more serious crimes. or call parking enforcement, same thing.

my 2 cents.

are you kidding me?? how is that car blocking your driveway.
if youre serious i hate people like you.

my friend got his car towed becuase his front bumper was sticking out literally like 5 inches in their driveway..

you have pleeeeenty of space to get in unless you drive a tank.

PS

Call the WHAAAAMBULANCE

Some people have very narrow driveways and every inch counts, so someone hanging over that much could very well be blocking someone from getting in or out of their driveway. I would be one of those people with a narrow driveway and would have zero qualms with calling the towing company and having them removed.

Werd, I have a pretty heft stack of those and the You park like and idiiot stickers. I have started using them quite frequently of late cuz people are idiots and my car has enough dents and dings on it. :thumbdown

Maybe it's because a lot of you live in the city (y'all, if it were Texas) and have a problem of not knowing which car belongs to whichever neighbor, but I'm not so trigger happy just to have someone towed. I'd rather figure out who it belongs to and ask them to move it. Why create animosity?
Of course you want to add the caveat that now that they know, next time they will be towed.

I'm with the others here that believe this is a waste of time. Personally, I would speak with my neighbor if it bothered me.

If you CANNOT safely get into or out of your driveway, then call the cops and they will get there evenetually and cite and tow as appropriate. But, don't expect THAT one to get towed. The OP clearly has plenty of room to get in and out.

I got cited in SF once and I have relayed the story here in the past. Essentially, the question was whether the driveway began where the slope started, before the slope started or where the slope ended. I was about 3 inches past where the slope started.. it was an 18" slope, then a 9' wide driveway (the flat part), then another 18" slope on the other side. So, the DPT person that had BACKED into the driveway I was supposedly BLOCKING had roughly 11' 9" to maneuver into the driveway to prepare the requisite TOW paperwork and wait for the towtruck after writting me a BS ticket for BLOCKING the friggin' driveway. Once I showed up, he pulled out in the city STATION WAGON with no delay whatsoever.. seemed like he had plenty of room to negotiate his way out of the driveway... in spite of the fact that I had not moved an inch. Go figure!

So, if it is truly BLOCKING your access, call. If it is NOT blocking or reasonably impeding your access, then deal with it like a good neighbor. :thumbup

If I know who's car it is I have no problem leaving a note or going to the door and asking nicely but if it continues then I'll have em towed. If I dont know who it is, I'll leave a note and give em a lil time but not much.

I have some pretty asshole neighbors so there is already animosity there and they have launched rocks at my vehicles so they can get towed, I dont care. Other neighbors though, they'll get a chance to move it first.

Oh, I know that car wont get towed cuz there is plenty of room but for some of us that have narrow driveways and have to deal with pricks blocking our way it gets old real fast when you have to constantly find out whos vehicle it is. If I'm not goin anywhere at the moment thats fine, but be gone by the time I leave. If its in the morning and I'm leaving for work and youre blocking me in, if I dont see any sign of someone coming to the vehicle you bet your ass I'm calling and having you towed. I've been delayed getting to work because my driveway has been blocked. It was fun watching some random dude come out of the house four doors down yelling that they cant tow him and blha blah blah. Sorry buddy, you blocked my driveway, I'm late for work, have a nice day. :teeth

You're dying? Is it really that funny?

I don't mind the original post...it may be helpful to other people at some point to know how folks deal with these situations.

Ok, here comes the helpful part. I've got experience with this.

If, and only IF - it is really blocking you from exiting - you may call the cops and they will have it towed.

I had a landlord park his girlfriends Lexus SUV on my lot, blocking my rig from getting out. No note, no knock on my door, no call from him. I'm sure he was showing off to her how he "owns" all this property. :rolleyes

No big deal, called the cops - they asked me one question "Is that vehicle blocking your path, and are you intending on using that path?" I said yes, they towed it. Perfect. Landlord called me later upset, but I told him I wouldn't pay for the tow. Sorry, your fault buddy. But I'm nice and feel bad so I bought him and his lady a bottle of wine to make it good. ;)

Is this a joke?

Is this a joke?

I was wondering the same thing. The threads on this place have gotten so ridiculous that I'm beginning to think that people are just coming here to goof on BARF.

To the OP, if you are serious, you have WAAYYYYY too much time on your hands.

Most cities have ordinances make obstruction of any part of driveways "illegal". I have seen homeowners cited for blocking their own driveway. Post a note on the windshield asking/warning the owner of said vehicle that they are block ingress/egress of your driveway and that next time, They will be towed at their own expense. Then, if they do it again, follow thru!! 5", 4' or total block, IT IS ILLEGAL to block a driveway!! I am on your side!! What if you came home drunk and knocked the boom boom out of the vehicle? Who's at fault? Leave a note 1st!!! Then get NASTY!!

You're talking about his neighbors.

For THIS case - I wouldn't do a damn thing. No note, no cops, no tow. Come on. Leave a note - now if they want, they can fuck with your house. Have them towed, same thing. Not worth if. They may not understand your position unless you needed to pull a tank out to drive the baby to the hospital...

If you fuck with other people in life over little shit - expect them to be angry with you. We're talking about HUMAN, the most dangerous animal to make angry at you...

Make sure it's worth it before you poke a tiger with a stick, because he's not in a cage this time.

+1

I had a real narrow driveway and garage entrance as well. When you really can't get out and it's the 10th time it's happened in the last few months, it gets real old real fast. Eventually you get sick and tired of knocking on all your neighbors doors, whistling loudly on the street or trying to out wait them out. If your car can't fit, go find a spot where it can or be prepared to be towed.

I gotta say though, it looks like the OPs garage entrance has enough room to still get out.

If there's a car behind him, park across your driveway and block the guy in. That'll learn 'em.

i'm sayin youre not the brightest light in the shed for posting this thread:teeth

im saying that my friend got towed because of a person similar to yourself .. ur driveway is not blocked jeez cry me a river.

i would understand if ur driveway was completly blocked but its not..

actually just go ahead and call the police and explain them the situation no better yet call 911 and declare that its an emergency :nerd
I hope it was me that got your friend towed and look forward to doing it again. Your "friend" deserved what he got.

People that PAY to have a garage get pissed when they can't use it.

It's quite possible that whoever lives at the place with a garage has a very expensive car with low clearance that can't maneuver around the piece of shit that is blocking the driveway...
