Anyone have a carbon fiber ring? I'm curious about the long term durability of them.

The one I'm looking at is titanium on the inside and a outer shell of carbon fiber.

insights?

I went with an engraved Cobalt ring.

7 years and it still looks great!

Some of the cf rings I have seen look great but I like mine more and don't ever want to take it off.

As much as I like the look of carbon fiber I'm not ready to get one yet. My first ring was tungsten. It broke after two years from running jack hammers, sledge hammers and whatever else hit it. Got another tungsten. I worry about the carbon fiber starting to break and getting carbon fiber into my skin. If it's like carbon fiber arrows the fibers will go in your hand but won't come out.

they'll come out the same direction they went in.

I'm betting it will last longer than most marriages.
Don't You put that evil on me ricky bobby!

I imagine the resin in CF will scuff and scratch easy. But it can polish out.

I can tell you this though. Tungsten carbide? Yeah...don’t pound your fist on anything hard. In my case a marble counter. Shattered into pieces. Fortunately it wasn’t my wedding band.

I've got a CF ring. It's light as hell, and pretty durable so far.

I wouldn't be surprised if a good epoxy resin is harder than gold. its tough to compare though because plastic hardness is measured with shore D hardness and metal hardness usually isn't.

The upside to it is if your in an accident and they need the ring off they just smash it and your finger is free.

So I’ve heard. They just use a vice grip plier or something like that.

Huh. Didn’t know they existed. Looked em up and there are some really cool lookin’ ones. I like ‘em. I’ve always wanted a meteorite dinosaur bone ring myself. Combines two interests of mine. A little too spendy though.

Cf is brittle and shatters and sucks for abrasion. It also absorbs water, though slowly. I assume they didnt seal the end cuts.

I wear a silicone ring. Light, wont bruise me when I hi5 myself and doesnt turn into a billion itchy shards as it runs against stuff like the barbell at the gym. My fancy ring is tungsten with a black ceramic circumfrentual stripe inlaid. That one chipped and broke falling on the tile floor. $50 replacement deductible yay. I never wear it anymore

Chiming in to say silicone rings FTW. We have traditional white gold rings for when we get old, but we wear our silicone ones 99% of the time. We opted for these ones that appear metallic. Most ERs aren't equipped to cut nontraditional ring materials (e.g., titanium) for this same reason, your ring may not be able to be resized in the future if your finger size changes.

The risk of having rings that can't be cut off by traditional ring cutters in the ER, combined with the risk of degloving or ring avulsion (google at your own risk), means I'd much rather wear a silicone ring on my bike, at the gym, walking the dogs, etc.

My Wife and I have the same Silicone rings. She has a fancy schmancy one for events. But 99% of the time were in our silicones.

The ring I broke has dinosaur bone and meteorite in it. Plus it glowed in the dark...because I’m a child inside. This was who I used. Not as much as you might think.

Guy has made a ton of YouTube videos on how he makes them.

Why. Why the hell did I do it. JFC. And I know what degloving is too. Just didn’t know what avulsion was.

I'm afraid to get a silicone ring, whenever I wear a silicone watch band I get a rash. I think it makes me sweat and then I get allergic to my own sweat? Wtf body

:wave Totally! I have a big honking sapphire engagement with diamonds, but I pretty much only trot it out for fancy work events and holidays at this point.

You poor thing. It's so gnarly, isn't it?

From what I've read, it's generally an allergy to nickel used in the metal bits of the watch band, not to the silicone. So, if it's localized at the part where your band buckles, you may be able to try silicone rings. (Another cause for rashes with silicone or any watch band / ring is the tightness. People get allergic reactions to soap that gets trapped under watches / rings and then that gets exacerbated by not letting the wrist / finger air out. Fascinating, I know. :laughing) The site I linked earlier has an extraordinary return / exchange policy. So you could try them out with low risk.

I wear a titanium band. Take it off when I'm at work
