Carbon fiber ring durability?

I wear a titanium band. Take it off when I'm at work

I go even further than that. My actual wedding band is made of segments of inlays of dinosaur bones. Actually kinda fragile because of the segmented setup. So I only wear it on the weekend. During the week, I wear a solid tungsten ring, as a stunt double. Still take it off when I punch in and start working though.

Why. Why the hell did I do it. JFC. And I know what degloving is too. Just didn’t know what avulsion was.

And you made me do it lol. I already knew what degloving was too but I didn't know what the first few pages of Google image search of it looked like. I do now. The junk one..... Holy fuck.

From what I've read, it's generally an allergy to nickel used in the metal bits of the watch band, not to the silicone. So, if it's localized at the part where your band buckles, you may be able to try silicone rings. (Another cause for rashes with silicone or any watch band / ring is the tightness. People get allergic reactions to soap that gets trapped under watches / rings and then that gets exacerbated by not letting the wrist / finger air out. Fascinating, I know. :laughing) The site I linked earlier has an extraordinary return / exchange policy. So you could try them out with low risk.

I have reasons to believe that that is not the case.

Mine is pretty no frills so I'm not worried about fucking it up :laughing I'm in the same line of work as you so it comes off when on the job

I tried a silicone ring as a temp replacement of my CF one that I lost a month after the wedding.

While it is probably safe and its really cheap, I didn't care for it at all. Don't like the feeling of a rubber band around my finger and the sweat that comes with it.

I don't actually wear my ring except events like another wedding or fancy party. I don't see the point in getting one I don't like or doesn't have any special meaning just to wear a ring. But i'm horrible with jewelry. I will either ruin/scratch it up or just straight up lose it.

Luckily I have a wonderful wife who doesn't care if i wear a ring or not.

I've seen what's happened to my platinum one over the years--it's gotten hammered! I'm surprised I still have a hand. It's pretty simple, because I wanted something that I could wear under gloves and not snag all of my sweaters. I'm sure mine has rotten hamburger meat and cat litter in it, along with all the dings and scratches. I wouldn't trust C.F. for the long-term. I'm sure they've thought of this though and it's fine--that or they're thinking short marriage? Or you just wear it on special occasions?

Well now I'm considering getting the CF ring for special occasions or to dress up with and then getting another ring for everyday wear.

The damascus ring with silver insider I have is cool but scratches way to easily. I find I wear my silicone workout rings much more often, came in a pack 5 different colors.

I might look into the CF ring now.

Like the entire jewelry industry the only thing they're thinking of is profit. Fact is CF is pretty cheap and still carrys a WOW factor for some reason. It is a shit choice for a high wear item, just like gold and platinum

Lol 2nd thread on barf taking bout degloving, that some nasty shiznit man

I took a bunch of art classes in college and one of them was ceramics. The people doing a lot of stuff on the wheel had to get their gold rings replated pretty regularly, as the act of making a pot tended to rub down a gold band over time and would wear it through completely. And I see you little swipe about platinum--it's true though! It's heavy and it totally gets beat up. I also wear my mother's wedding band and it's gold and platinum--it matches mine--so there's a method to the madness. :x

I can tell you this though. Tungsten carbide? Yeah...don’t pound your fist on anything hard. In my case a marble counter. Shattered into pieces. Fortunately it wasn’t my wedding band.

:wtf
I read that wrong....I thought you'd blown up the counter.

Four years now on a heavy tungsten band. I probably should take it off, given the work I do, but it's held up beautifully and looks like the day I got it.
