So this morning in San Jose at 7:45 on N.87 before the airport I get behind some asshat driving alone in the carpool and there isn’t even any real traffic. I made a pass on him giving him a nice big finger, then passed two more cars and cut back into the HOV lane.

Didn’t even think anything about it until I took the 1st street exit, turned on Zanker and pulled into my office driveway ½ a mile later. (Taking the 1st St exit is not easy; traffic is stopped at that point so dude must have been hauling ass)

I get off my bike still wearing my lid and gloves and guess who pull up next to me. Yep, asshat. I went up to his car and asked WTF does he want. He says it’s his business if he wants to risk a ticket and if he was “another type of guy he’d beat my ass”

Like I said I was still wearing all my gear, standing in front of my office with 2 of my coworkers. The only thing that kept me from flipping him off again was that I was standing in front of my building and the baseball bat I saw in his back seat.

Anyway, that was my excitement for this morning. Too bad I’m on the 6:AM shift tomorrow. It would be pretty funny if I got to flip him off again. Oh well maybe next Tuesday :D

so he cheated in the HOV lane, then decided to waste all that time he saved and then some to follow you and give you shit? :laughing what a tool

I really don't see a reason to flip him off unless he made a move to try to block your pass or something. Perhaps I'm just missing something? :dunno

I'm not a huge fan of pissing off people in cages when I'm exposed on my little scooter.

Ive been shot at for less. If you feel the need to flip someone off or knock off their mirrors as i used to. You must be ready and willing to defend yourself because you will need to eventually. My advice would be to take off your helmet. Where the head goes the body follows. It makes you top heavy and throws u off your balance in a fight. It is much more useful in your hand.

I accidentally used the car pool on ramp yesterday as I am almost always riding but was caging it for a change and brain was on auto pilot. Nobody flipped me off tho, and I don't own a baseball bat.

It's good to avoid flipping people off. I don't have a perfect record on this, but I've had enough run ins to restrain myself most of the time these days. I am not a fighter by any stretch, so no point inviting one...

I think the saying that "it takes 2 to cause road rage" may apply here.
Glad that the rage didn't lead to physical harm!

By all means...Keep acting like a little kid, with no thoughts of what your doing...until someone that is just as stupid..rages on your ass...possibly fatally.

So what, if someone is alone in their car in the car pool lane, or doing anything else? Your on a bike...can't you make it work? Put it where ever you want? Change Your location? Distance Yourself from something?

Hard to take this comment seriously coming from the one of the oldest babies on the board.

oh, and fyi, you forgot to tell him how he needs straight bars, and what an awesome rider you are.

If you're walking down the sidewalk and someone's in your way, you go around 'em. Even if they were blocking the entire sidewalk and you had to awkwardly pass, if you flip 'em the bird once you're past and walking away it makes you look like a psycho.

I don't really see the difference between that situation and the one the OP described.

His verbally threatening bodily harm upon you is considered assault. No contact needs to be made. If you had witnesses, you could have called the police.

Zen and the art of moto war.

Execute the pass and be on your merry way.

Wasted energy/karma flipping him off.

The finger doesn't do much. Get a helmet cam and put 'em on youtube instead.
