Nothing to hide,
Yes, you first have to take the class as a student, this is so that you are familiar with the class, content, how it is delivered and what is in the class. Candidates must shadow two classes, Watch and learn how the instructors run the class, place cones, time etc. Then attend the 7 days (This can be in the current format of 7 consecutive days or in the future we will be doing some that are two consecutive long weekends) The final two days of the seven is the Candidates teaching and actual class of real students.
Instructors are paid and the rate varies by site and how much you do (I was getting $25 hourly at the sites I taught for and doing all the class). Most pay hourly and the program is just over 15 hours total, there is classroom time and of course Riding (Range) time. Some instructors will work both, some just do the riding portion depending on the needs of the site. Some sites do double ranges, one group morning, one group afternoon, so you could teach a lot if you wanted to.
You will learn a lot more by taking the class, shadowing classes and talking to the site owners, administrators and Instructors at the sites you are interested in working at.
Hope this all helps.
