Commuting with extra protective gear?

If you do ride with extra gear in this situation, what kind of gear is it and would you recommend it?

Commuting= Aerostich Roadcrafter
Weekend rides and road trips = Aerostich Roadcrafter
Boots = Sidi On Road Sympatex

Track day = one piece leather suit, back protector
Boots = Sidi Vertigo

Helmet = Arai, GTYR, Profile

Keep all your parts connected!

ATGATT - commuting, twisties, whatever.

Custom leather jacket and pants from Johnson's Leather with t-pro armor and back protector, Daytona boots, Racer gloves, Shoei helmet.

The only thing you could say I "add" for my commute is I make sure to wear my yellow reflective vest for better visibility. I used to just wear a pretty standard construction worker's vest, but a couple months ago a friend got me one of these which I like:

I also have a Halo reflective band on my helmet. Very visible in low light situations, and it often catches peoples' attention when I'm changing lanes due to my head-checks before changing lanes.

Way to go Man, that is the way i see it (and do it) 100%. There is no time, when the worst situation isn't a possibility, and.... I view commuting as the most hazzardous conflict with heavy metal (potentlally).

i commute on 101 on the worse possible times.. rush hour all the time.. during my commute, i wear A* boots, cargo pants, jacket, gloves, backpack, and helmet.. i do want to buy a back protector though..

On weekends & road trips I wear an Aerostich 1-piece or 2-piece leathers. Always.

But during my 15-minute commute across the City on my scooter I feel comfortable with a Dainese textile jacket with shoulder/elbow armor & back protector, jeans, boots, short gloves, and, of course, my trusty Arai Profile.

If I were commuting longer distances, definitely Aerostich...

Jacket + Gloves + T-Pro Underarmor Pants (wear it under my jeans) + Helmet + Boots every day for every ride

Don't forget about yer knees!

Every rider i know whose gone down on the street had more serious
lower body injuries than upper body injuries. So, back protector's a great idea, but make sure you have motocross knee protectors or the T-pro
ones under those cargo pants!

I've got the First Gear Sport Tour Overpants. Leather, but unlike their textile siblings they do NOT let you put in improved 'armor' and just have some mouse pads w/ velcro on the knees. I'm considering those strap on knee pads folks keep talking about but would prefer to have reasonable armor put in my pants. Maybe Juan can do it, I need a calf zipper fixed on my track suit too.

Unless the pants are very tight(like in a 1-piece racesuit), I don't think that the kneepads and/or hippads would neccessarily stay where you want them in a crash. That's why i don't want them in the overpants, but underneath them.
This is one of the big selling points for the Roadcrafters suits, you just have one garment to put on. I live in Contra Costa Co. where it's usually too hot to wear one of those babies. If I lived in S.F I'd have one.

full leathers and sidi boots.

I keep a couple pairs of pants at work, along with a pair of shoes. I take my car 1 day every other week, which is when i switch out the pants to launder.

This jacket in hi-viz yellow http://www.olympiamotosports.com/gt_air/gt_air.htm, mesh textile pants till it gets cooler, revit waterproof gloves, scorpion exo700, sidi vertigos, and one of these on my backpack http://www.beseenonabike.com/shopuk/product_info.php?products_id=145 yes it does stay put doing 75+

Jacket + Gloves + T-Pro Underarmor Pants (wear it under my jeans) + Helmet + Boots every day for every ride

How do you like those T-Pro pants? Was thinking of getting some but havent heard anyone say anything about them.

Also want to pick up either a better backprotector that replaces the one in the jacket or get the T-Pro or AStar one with chestprotector.

For those fellow students worried about having all this shit to carry around school, check with the disabled students office or the rec centers about getting a locker for the semester.

just what's in my avatar, steel toed boots, jeans, jeans over sweatpants during winter, and my armored leather jacket and armored leather gloves

*Almost* ATGATT - leather jacket w/back protector insert (a real back protector insert, not the piece of friggin' foam they include with the jacket), Sidi Vertigos, leather gloves and a full-face helmet. On weekend rides I have leather pants that zip to the jacket. During the hotter summer days I'll wear a textile jacket with the back protector in it, but everything else stays the same.

I wear the same thing all the time, no matter where I'm riding.

Aerostich Darien (jacket and pants) with:

Elbow pads
Shoulder pads
Back protector
Hip pads
Knee pads

Plus Aerostich Combat Lite boots, Held gloves, and an RF1000 helmet.

Commute:
Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots
First Gear Sport Tour Overpants (leather)
-- Zipper attached pants/jacket --
FieldShear SuperSport III leather Jacket (armored)
Helimot H20 gloves
Helmet/Balaclava/earplugs

Canyons/Track:
Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots/RevIt Socks
Tilt Customs 1 Piece Track Suit
Dainese Back Protector
Helimot H20 gloves
Helmet/Balaclava/earplugs

I have the T-Pro Forcefield Pro Pants...
Honestly they are comfy and they fit well. It's got the shin/knee gaurd that's removable and upgradeable, got the thighs legs hips butt protection as well. The back of my knees and shins sweat a little bit when it's super warm, but other than that, i like them alot...

ATGATT

Full face, boots, gloves and back protector with one piece leathers for the track and two piece leathers for commuting.

Olympia Stealth One Piece

I commute in an Olympia Stealth one piece cordura/mesh suit. The back protector is built in.

I just bought an Olympia Stealth. I think I can wear this all year long (Contra Costa County). I was wondering how it has been working out for you. Or if anyone has had any experience with a crash with it on. My thought was that it was a good combination of protection, air flow, and ease of use. Not as bulky as the 'Stitch or Phantom. I can stuff this thing into a Timbuk2 bag and be off to the office.

ANY freeway/canyon riding no matter how far I travel I wear a full size helmet, 1 piece leathers, back protector, race gloves, boots and backpack with a change of clothes if needed.

Riding around locally no freeway or canyons I wear full size helmet, water proof 2 piece textile suit over my clothes, Bohn Cool Air Bodyguard Adventure Pants under my jeans, back protector, race gloves and boots.

I need to buy chest protection, upgrade my back protector and get some waterproof boots and gloves...
Lets not forget a tank bag and rear set up to put a bag on the passenger seat .. that should complete my package...

Definitely try before you buy. The Tpro knee armor doesn't fit me, either in their pants or by itself. Their shorts are nice though...

Always. Olympia Stealth 1 pc suit, Sidi Vertigo boots, Suomy helmet, and Cortech Scarab Winter gloves (Held Phantoms when it's warmer).

I do not ride my bike without the aforementioned gear. Anywhere.
