Costco gas station....um

Not a Costco guy here so not quite sure. How much do you save five cents a gallon? 20 gallon tank? A dollar? Seriously?

No idea, not a Costco member... I shop for 2 adults, not the Patridge family.

All I know is that there is vortex of rush, fervor, and complete disregard for even common sense to dangers on the road within the area. I do my best to avoid it.

Costco is my goto for car batteries, tires, and tv’s.
The shopping experience is aggravating. Everyone has a brodozer size shopping cart cutting each other off. You know you only take so much before you blow. I’ll often bail without buying anything.

Like any financial decision, Costco gas may work for you and not for others. I have 2 Costcos between my house and work. One on the east side of 101 and one on the west side of 101. Both are a couple of stop lights off the freeway. I usually hit the Rohnert Park station on my way to work at around 7 am. I never have to wait.

It's 30c cheaper than our local gas station, so six bucks per 20g tank for us. We used to get gas at roseville costco when we'd go shopping there, but most of the time it's so annoying that it's absolutely not worth six bucks to me.

Just looked at the Costco prices I go to on Gas Buddy; they are always accurate.

$4.49/$4.89

Closest gas station is a Chevron about 1/8 mile away on Santa Rosa Avenue.

$4.99/$5.39

According to Gas Buddy, the Costco in my neighborhood is $3.98 right now - there are 2 other stations within a mile of that Costco that are also $3.98.

I don't buy enough gas to make driving all the way to the nearest Costco worthwhile. Its a 15 minute drive and the lines are always really long there. However, if the gun and baton-carrying lines move quicker, I might reconsider.

I've got to assume that all costco's in the bay are insane? The one in roseville is annoying 90%+ of the time. What's weird is that the costco in citrus heights is pretty mellow, save for the gas station because it's 1/3 the size of a normal costco, but the store itself is surprisingly chill. Citrus heights is kind of like rio linda lite, so I never wanted to go.

Well there's always the "we're mad you won't let us give everyone cancer" tax.

I've never shopped for more than two and have had a membership for more than 20 years. You're missing the point if you think it's just about buying in bulk. Hell, even if I only went twice a year, the membership has already saved me a lot more than the annual cost...and I'm not even factoring in gas. There's hotel discounts, theme park discounts, airline discounts, etc. Shit, I've bought a motorcycle and two vehicles using Costco. :laughing

As for the gas, I won't go out of my way to get it and instead just do so if I'm low enough when I do visit the warehouse or happen to be driving by. The thing is, the difference in price here isn't significant enough in the first place. The Citgo (Top Tier) around the corner from our house is currently at $2.41 a gallon for regular and Costco, which is actually in Georgia, is at $2.39. Now, Georgia's gas is currently a lot more expensive ($2.95) than ours is so I get why Georgians would want to make a point to get gas at Costco, but I certainly don't go out of my way to do it.

A Santa Rosa Costco...is not exactly "in the bay". :)

Some Costcos I've seen.... Are chill. You've got to take a clue as to which they are ;) in fact I can say there are actually differences between the two closest Costcos to San Francisco! (I've noticed different watches and different beer.)

But the one time I stopped somewhere near center Sac, so, maybe Roseville, the line was long indeed

Closer to the refineries, the more expensive it is.....right? RIGHT?!?!

The Shell station that was right next to the Shell refinery in Martinez was the most expensive gas in the area :laughing

When able to choose I buy my gas at chevron. Why? Because I’m a tard and sometimes do tarded things, and they sell the good stuff.
But in a blind taste test I can’t tell the difference between one gas station chain and another.

If it's Top Tier gas, the stations are literally all getting it from the same place. The only difference is their additives. If you want to pay extra for Techron or V-Power, knock yourself out. Most chain stations put some sort of detergent in their fuel, even if it's not Top Tier fuel. You just have to decide what your comfortable paying extra for and what you think your butt dyno feels in "performance gains". :laughing

paid 4.69/gal for regular in El Cerrito, I was the only customer when I pulled in. The station was on my way to TJs.

All of this Costco Gas talk had me quick surfing to FB marketplace for a $500 mechanics special to take through that line and leaving it there while I shop. And never to return. Anyone know when the busiest time is?

Butt dyno... :rofl

With a "G", not "B". Butt Gyno.

The gas we have in CA is just awful. Chevron’s additive package (Techron) is definitely the best. And it’s priced accordingly. But for whatever reason, Shell’s gas (V-Power) does not like my cars, despite costing just as much as Chevron.. Over the years I’ve tried it here and there in a few different Corvettes, and every time I’ve heard audible pinging or the check engine light comes on. Go figure…a high compression pushrod V8 with a supercharger making 14psi of boost might be a bit sensitive to less than perfect fuel. Occasionally I will fill up the whole tank with 100 octane from the 76 Station in Saratoga, and my butt dyno (and even a real dyno) can feel the difference.

Rob, ime over the years, Shell's additive package does not mix well with other fuel brands. Seems to be a non issue if you use it exclusively. Countless times I've had customers complain they just filled up with fuel and their car started running poorly. It was Shell every time.
