craigslist charging $5 for private party motorcycle ads

I find it ironic how someone can complain about a service, or a former free service now charges for it.... He posts it on teh barfs and its pile on city.
Don't delegitimize their feelings or thoughts.
We all long for the good ol days when shit was simpler.

Whammy has noticed since CL's inception that quality has gone to shit, and the bots and fake ads have increased.
Call that a lack of attention on behalf of the management of CL.
So they charge now... ok if you want to post there and pay great. Post and pay.
Doesn't take away from the point that CL has gone down hill and now charges for something that was once free.
We all gripe about something everyday. EVERYONE.
So its now become a pile on every time someone says something.
There were at least two points made by the OP.. and each of them may have been legit in his mind.

How about saying ya CL has turned into more shit that it has been in years past. They found a way to make money off car sales and job posts but it is what it is.
Teh barfs has become more and more of a lynch mob/trolls than it has a community.

What in the fracking frack is wrong with you people? Craigslist makes billions already, you want to give them more money? I don't understand why.

You people are the reason CL can charge $5.00 per auto ad.

I for one will no longer be using the CL platform to buy or sell anything in the future. Just like I don't watch many MotorTrend shows that I enjoyed in the past. I don't believe that in this day and age I should pay for any content or services that were provided to me in the past for free.


Have fun giving your hard earned dollars to the man. I for one will be investing my saved $5.00 into a low yield, yet safe, ROTH IRA. Investing in myself, for my future.

I had to pay 40$ in 1997 to sell my car in Denver. Newspaper ad. Denver Post. Ad run for a month, 2 lines,I dont remember how many characters.
The internet was out there but it didnt penetrate to average people.
Then came Yahoo adds. It was 15$.
Then came craigslist. I rather pay CS than post ad on Fbook

I just sold my ktm on CS, ad was running for 3 months

Offer up and Let Go apps are free to post. Let go has some motorcycles on there an allows you to search up to 500 milea away. Offer up only let's you search about 30 miles or so

Craigslist is Cragislist. It's never been terribly effective and that hasn't changed much in the last 20 years. Personally, I'm fine with having to pay for ads and I'm also fine with having to pay each week if that's what it takes to get something to sell. I generally do my research and price my bikes competitively so that they sell in 2-3 weeks. If you were trying to sell a $100 bike, I can see that paying $20 to get the sale could be a problem. For most bikes, however, that's a drop in the bucket. Seems like you're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here and (almost) nobody is buying it...

Why do you think it’s less effective?

I don’t understand the point of your post. If you don’t think paying $5 is worth it to you to sell a bike, don't list your bike on CL and sell it in some other way. It’s not some sort of moral outrage that a business wants to charge money for the service it provides. Even if it wasn’t charging before.

Is your point basically that you don’t like when things change, you’d rather not pay $5, and you were hoping that others would validate your emotions?

Have you seen the replies form the OP? They don't want to have a discussion and just want people to agree with them. Seems like most people side with CL on their decision.

This. Salaries and hosting are far from free. Don't like it, then don't pay for it.

I work for a company that gives away too much for free and I expect we will be changing that soon. Maybe not directly applicable to CL, but the days of free VC money are behind us.

So if the super majority of the monkeys disagree or don't like what he posted doesn't mean everyone has to as well.

I don't mind paying 5 dollars, but it seems that there are far fewer bikes for sale now. I don't miss the scammers though, as it seems to slow them considerably.

OP is just as responsible. His method of communication is throwing fuel on the fire. He seems content defending himself. Doesn't need you to white knight for him.

I dont know if they are deciding to do this by region.

havent heard of it happening here.

I just hope that they vet the flagging system because if I pay my $5 to post and some asshat flags my ad and gets it taken down out of some petty spite, I would be pretty mad.

Teh Barf has become one of those places where you cant speak your mind with out getting pummeled by MONKEYS and ass hats who don't agree.
