Vince Update

Vince is very stable and is going to be moved to Kaiser in San Francisco.

He is not able to speak, however he can nod to say yes. He remembers people and is able to communicate via nod...

The doctors had him sitting up and looking around... They still have him on a LOT of meds... But it's looking good!!!

Still working on setting up the account.

This is starshooter's mom. Vinny was at John Muir and has now been transferred to a Kaiser Hospital. John Muir did in fact take excellent care of him, and at this point I ahave nothing nice to say about Kaiser.:( Vinny is awake and is dealing with brain injuries, amongst other injuries. Sveral people from the forum have contacted me so I could read Vinny messages. His long term memory seems to be intact so he does remember names. He has talked about riding...For those of you who know my son he has a deep love for motorcycles. Thanks for all the well wishes.

I set up the account with Bill's help. Bill has all the info. I am so grateful to Techordia, Wilson, & Vinny's friends (Vinny's medical insurance expired on his birthday 3/24), who have offered to help. Unfortunately the insurance companies are still trying to figure out what exactly happened the day of the accident.

I have recieved some of the sweetest messages. As soon as Vinny is cleared to have visitors etc... I will let you Bill know. For now he is on the Trauma Brain Injury (TBI) protocal, which means very little interaction/stimulation in his environment.

Thank you.:) As of right now he is unable to have visitors. Yesterday he had another rough day, but I'm hoping with the medicine changes, he will be stable soon.
 
If it helps any for you, my mother-in-law was paraplegic and her meds were a dizzying array of things, from pain management to anti-depressants to stuff you wouldn't think would have any effect, and changing the time of day or considering the multiple drug interactions was PhD level pharmacology. I'm sure it will all settle out and Vince will get better soon and start improving. :thumbup

And thank you for keeping us informed, we here on teh BARF are a family. A weird, dysfunctional family, but a family. Think Addams. :teeth

Dear Vinnysmom. I'm sure you're getting lots of unsolicited advice and you probably already know, but if his medical insurance expired after the accident you should be able to renew it at the earlier rates through COBRA. There is a grace period of several weeks if not months. I did this a couple years ago when my youngest son turned 26 and he no longer qualified to stay on my policy.

Thank you everyone. We are looking into Cobra right now, but there seems to be a question as to whether or not he is eligible. All the paperwork and trying to come up with a release plan is overwhelming...
