Critical ass today in SF

I waded through this thread waiting for photos of babes in spandex....

Here's a nice photo:

My opinion is that the federal boondoggle 'stimulus' should have been spent making all urban areas bicycle/pedestrian friendly....Seattle has the Burke Gilman Trail that could be a model.

I totally disagree with the antics of CM. P*ssing off commuters is NOT a good idea to advance your agenda.

Most of us bicycle riders have run over tacks, or more commonly the thorns. We've all dealt with the *inconvenience*, and sometimes *danger* that comes with it. We either crash and get rash, or take time and fix the tire.

Before we call him a lowlife, we should think about the concept that in critical mass, we as bicyclists are making everyone else deal with an *inconvenience* that sometimes also results in *danger* to the public. I'm sure a few people get hit by bikes or people swerve and crash every critical mass, right?

I'm just trying to highlight the concept, so don't shoot the messenger because I am neither A) riding a bike like a prick, or B)fighting against bikers like a prick.

I'm just an observer, one who's spent time in a car and on a bike and tries to do both respectfully.

Some footage of CM (2:00-3:00 in the video) from last Friday. Seemed fairly mellow to me.

I put advocating putting tacks on the road on the same level as some lunatic local from Santa Cruz mountains or Berkeley Hills advocating putting rocks or whatenot on the road to show/slow down those "asshole motorcyclists". I can pretty much guarantee if there was a forum for residents who live there there will be a thread about motorcyclists, and someone would say something very similar.

Anyway back to the topic. The roads are not used just by those idiot CMers they are used by regular Joe cyclists commuting to work, etc. As result of someone putting tacks on the road sure they might get inconvenienced by a flat, or they might crash and end up under the car.

Thank you! I can assure you CM is the reason every piece of bike legislation gets violently voted down when it comes up on the ballot. I remember getting chewed out by CMers leaving my driveway in the Mission for no real reason other than I was in my car at the time. I still vote for bike measures in spite of critical-ass. I think most people vote against bike measures because they think "oh its those assholes."

I think you are giving them too much credit, unless you mean SF specific legislature. Most people have no clue what CM is. The most exposure they got was a couple of years ago when there was those altercations with drivers in Berkeley in SF. Most of legislature gets struck down because U.S. is a car centric society, and any thing that is perceived to impact it negatively in any way is voted against.

hmm everytime critical ass gets mentioned . the haters come out of the closet.

haters = other people having fun and you are left out.

Its really a minor inconvenience and one of the joys of san francisco. Well that i can happen here and has continued for so long

If people have a problem with it, city living may not be for you.. I don't think they have a CM in walnut creek.hehehehe its nice and quiet out there from what I hear

I am not a big fan of baseball football or basketball but I still have to be subjected to waiting in traffic while people go and watch these silly events.

I don't think CM really has that much of a point other than to say .. "yes this many people ride bikes"

I don't really ride in it as much as I use to but they still get my support:thumbup

so relax and enjoy the ride .. life is more than just commuting back and forth to work in a cage

Hmmm not sure how anyone could live in the Bay Area for any amount of time and not know what CM is. So you think the hundreds of angry people sitting in their cars getting yelled at by self-righteous jack-asses on bikes has a positive effect on the way people vote. Interesting theory.

F**kin-a DITTO!!!

I'd sooner deal with Critical Mass once per month than the scads of stupid sporting event fans over and over and over and over...

Hmm.. I didn't encounter any amount of bicyclists that wouldn't move out of my way or that Z3N couldn't have backed it in past, today.. What's everyone complaining about?

;)

As I said when it was on TV few years back sure, otherwise people have no clue. You live in SF, try asking anyone in south bay. They might recall the TV coverage, but thats about it.

:facepalm I do not have a slightest clue how you got that from my post.
