Critical ass today in SF

We had finished up at Ocean Beach, and a big moto ride came by on the Great Highway.

They were very loud, breaking the noise ordinance. I believe many of the drivers were either mad or intimated by all the motorcycles, especially when they all split to the front.

So what happened when the cyclists and the motorcyclists finally met up? They waved at us, and we waved at them.

Keep crying all you want. You don't think we are brothers in arms, then that's your problem. You should probably quit riding.

Oh so now we all should quit riding if we don't bow down to you and your opinion 'eh? Is there any limit to your hypocritical arrogance?

sanjuro, you are taking the wrong approach. Instead of telling us we should be so thankful for receiving the generosity of bicyclists that we should appreciate bringing traffic to a halt, you should be focusing on what we do share.

In the end, our goals and needs are very similar. Being self-righteous and telling us we should be thanking you just ain't gonna work.

It doesn't matter who you are talking to, that approach isn't going to win anyone over - even if they want to agree with you.

So, you can either go off and stick to considering yourself right and everyone else should thank you for it or you can actually try earn some support for what you believe.

In the end, when a message -no matter how right - is delivered by a self-righteous asshole, all anyone sees is the self-righteous asshole.

No it's not , BARF rides don't run lights ,hassle other people and in general act like assholes and then crow about how it's their right to do so.

As I've stated to Sanjuro , bring that crap up here to cowboy country and see how it goes over , I *dare* you to.

Since when were motorcycles and bicycles brothers? What just cause one group waved at you were similar? When I'm waiting for a red light and a bike peddles past me crossing it he aint my brother, but when the other motorcycle safely splits to the front of that same red light and waits thats a brother.

Isn't that the Castro?

And up here in the north end of the state there's still quite a few large ranches , and a lot of other agriculture , critical mass wouldn't go over real well in Red Bluff , Redding , Susanville , Alturas , hell it wouldn't even go over in Chico , the most liberal town up here , it's not unusual to see someone driving their tractor through some of these towns to get it somewhere or see folks on horseback.

Now there's a thought on how to handle critical massers , a tractor and a round baler , bale 'em up with the hay and feed 'em to the goats , goats will eat most anything and that way the massers would be 'contributing to the environment'.

I bet if we all hat white cone hats on it would go over just great :laughing

i like critical mass. kept a lot of moto cops too busy to worry about us!

hey sanjuro, grikl, were either of you one of the nekid dudes? :shocker
i still can't see how someone can ride with their junk just danglin!!:laughing

me and three other guys bumped into your parade as we were coming off the embarcadero (onto beach, i think). i stayed to the far right, and kept rollin. a few of the cyclists tried to play chicken, but really, they weren't dumb. :teeth

i don't see what the big deal is. ride on, rider.

Yeah? Try Ukiah for that crap ,largest chapter of those clowns west of the Big Muddy. Put 'em together with the massers and let 'em all eliminate each other , get rid of two bunches of freaks in one fell swoop.

If you're ever farther north drop me a line , lots of good roads ,and 36 is right near me.

maybe I shouldent we are asian and a rope and a tree dont sound comfortable :laughing

Well, I saw some angry words and a Volvo trying to hit someone.

I rarely think about this when I ride in Critical Mass, but there is safety in numbers.

Think about this, then STFU

You should criticize the person who started the thread, "Critical Ass", right?

Frankly, in person I have been very nice and non-confrontational when discussing critical mass.

But mostly, I see a very hostile tone toward other two wheelers in these threads, and when I see threats, the same kind of idiotic threats hurled at motorcyclists by anonymous posters, then I am more than glad to yank some chains.

I would be glad to discuss my own doubts of Critical Mass and reasons why I ride it almost every month, but not if I and other cyclists are going to be threatened.

One final thing before I drop out of this thread (again).

I said this every time I do critical mass, "Everything I do in Critical Mass, I am willing to do alone".

I have ridden in 20 states, from the Deep South to the worst neighborhoods in the East Coast.

You don't think I bang on windows of cars that almost tag me? Yell at drivers on the cell phone?

Think I haven't ridden in your neck of the woods? Guess again. I've pedaled from Brookings to here.

Yeah, I'm afraid of getting hit by a car, and frankly, less so when there are 500 riders around me.

Yes, I know there is closet anarchists who only reveal themselves on the last Friday of the month. I'm not one of those people. I'm the same rider every day of the month.

The only difference... :rofl on top of which, we're out of everyone's way MUCH quicker lol there and gone. Well, except for the 4,000+ man ride I went on for veteran's day down at Ft. Hood....THAT blocked off the entire freeway and some side roads for a while...but we had police escorts :teeth

edit - found some video of the phantom thunder ride from last year (i did the one in 2008, was in iraq for 2009's)

If you have never experienced riding in the SF critical mass please dont talk badly about it. Its probably the most fun you can have on two wheels with a big group of friends. I go out every Halloween. The only reason people stop traffic is that the fact that cagers are angry, we all know this. Their life sucks. They have a 2 hour commute in traffic everyday and cant lane split! I have personally seen a cager PLOW 5 cyclists during a critical mass ride because the the blocking traffic left. They where all loaded into ambulances and taken to the hospital, 2 of which where in critical condition.

Whats the difference between BARF riders that break the speed limit and critical mass? Everyone in the cages looks as us and says the same thing "fvcking idiots"

Where else can you see a unicyclist towing 2 tapped full kegs? No where! hahaha
