Brah you know how hard and long it takes to imu one pig? Not too much imu'ing to be done in Oahu (except at the luau's...the tourist luau's that is) and plus...easier to buy kahlua pig. Kinda like the filipinos around here....we can do lechon but would rather buy it.
My folks in Hawaii and Kauai though....
Plus the food here is not just what you think is traditional Hawaii food (kahlua pig, poi, lomi salmon, lau lau...brah you just basically listed the 'what the haole's know is hawaiian food'). A lot of the local grindz in Hawaii cannot be found anywhere else but in Hawaii. Yeah we got L&L (junk imo) and a plate lunch place here and there. But you can't just go to the local store and get a pound of Ahi poke and one pound of tako poke w/ kim chee. Or hawaiian style malasada (like Leonards). Spam musubi at 7-11. Podogee sausage and rice/eggs at Macdonalds. The list goes on...
