Current dash cam setup for your cage?

I’ve always seen this as just another marketing angle to sell people cameras. I’d guess the odds of this ever being cost effective are less than being struck by lightning.

I’ve had eye witnesses and store shipping logs to identify a hit and run delivery driver...Insurance didn’t think the 3K claim was worth pursuing and neither did the cops so I ate the deductible. More recently our home cameras caught video of our neighbor’s burglary. No plates (not my house), but another jurisdiction actually caught the guy and called asking for the footage because SJPD (who I gave to to) wouldn’t even bother to share a copy.

If somebody owes me $500 and it costs me $1000 to get it back, I'm spending $1000.

Deductible: $250-$500
Dash cam: $50-$250

If it saves you from having to pay your deductible even once it’s paid for itself. I’ve had my truck backed into while parked 3x now. One of them tore the bracket for my license plate off. If I’d had a cam with park mode to get their license plate (was parked parallel all 3 times) I’d be sitting pretty.

I feel for you, but i think you over estimate the effort the police and insurance companies will care. And that is assuming you actually had the right camera angle, and that you could prove the damage wasn’t already there, and that the person who hit you wasn’t already dodging debt. Hell, I’ve had my Credit Card compromised multiple times for thousands of dollars and even the fraud department guys admitted it’s rarely worth pursuing. There’s also no shortage of hi-res videos of package thief’s on NextDoor and I have yet to ever hear the person got caught

about 1.75 hours, i hook it up to my cigarette port charger deal with a cable tho while it's in the truck. Will run indefinitely like that, i actually don't even keep the battery in it.

Just bought a Hero 5 at BestBuy. Dude said the battery would last a day. I had forgotten about your note on the less than 2 hours.
I might reconsider before I open this.

bestbuy is like 14 days, so don't sit on it too long if you plan on returning it

For mounting on a helmet I like the narrower profile of the Sony. Don't know if the Sony is any good or not.
If I keep this it I could see it getting used a few times then ending up in the drawer alongside my old gopro and discarded cell phones.
