i don't carry one, but i sleep with one. my SO travels a lot. he doesn't trust me with the guns while he's gone (afraid i will not use discretion). so he gave me one of these. i keep it next to my pillow.

Not a good everyday knife but I carry this on my job. IMO, it's a great defensive knife.

Nasty! I love it. I have a ton of knives. Most of the time I carry a pink Leek.
This thread reminds me that I meet to sent both Emerson Karambits in for blade repair.

+1 for the Ontario Rat 1. Daily carry is the Ontario Rat 2. Just the right size for edc.

not a connoisseur by any stretch, but am i the only one who doesn't trust folding blades?

For self defense or every day practical use?

For self defense, I've never really put too much thought into it. I have firearms in the home for that. Outside the home, I avoid shitty situations at all costs. I'd rather run than get in a knife fight.

Daily use, I've carried all kinds of folders for 15+ years and never had an issue. People used to ask me why I carry a knife, I don't even know how to explain how much I need one. I was in Hong Kong for 10 days doing an install and was repeatedly frustrated/annoyed when I reached for my knife and it wasn't there. Need to start remembering to put one in my checked bag.

I'd also never EDC a fixed blade. I've tried with a few different sizes and I find it really impractical.

Next question, when's the last time you utilized your EDC and for what?
I have nice knives but if averaged out over the years I believe an EDC scissors is the most useful carry. Scissors plus serrated cutter is the top usefulness for me.

I'll keep that in mind:teeth

I'm frankly a little puzzled that so many apparently feel they need to carry a weapon on a daily basis. Because lots of those pictures are of just that. Y'all live in war zones? :laughing

That being said, I do have a small keychain swiss army knife and it gets used a lot. But I can't think of an example where the <1" blade has been not enough. Scissors get used far more than the blade as well.

Sure I got mine in the length that I did for the weapon aspect of it. But my primary reason for carrying a knife is as a mechanic, it's always good to have a knife of some kind pretty handy.

Pretty much everyday I use my knife.

Used it at around 2:00 AM last night on an install to cut a few pieces of gasketing.

Are you someone who has never worked in a trade? Only worked at desks your whole life? Knives are extremely useful on a daily basis. Some folks have a need for a knife and prefer a style that you may think makes it applicable to a war zone.

I pack 3.4" of angry steel, and you can quote me on that.

A 1" Swiss army knife makes a great, non-threatening office knife. If you are cutting more than paper or tape, 2.5-4" is a good range.

Of the brands mentioned, I much prefer Spyderco and Zero Tolerance. Benchmade still makes some good knives, but the quality and workmanship isn't what it used to be.

I avoid Cold Steal or Ontario Rat. Shady ass companies and overpriced for the quality. ESEE is the "real" RAT knife now.

I know it isn't fancy or tactical, but this little Opinel No.8 folder is great at everything I need it to do and it's almost weightless.

I opened a box, shaved some reeds, and made some saxophone repair corks just this morning.
