LUCIANO BENAVIDES WINS, HOWES LEADS THE RALLY AGAIN | GP
23:57

This is the third time that the two HVA riders Luciano Benavides and Skyler Howes have achieved the feat!

The Argentinean has won his 3rd special on the Dakar while his American team-mate has regained control of the general rankings, making it Mr Howes’ 6th day on at the summit of the Dakar 2023.

Daniel Sanders finishes with the second best time of the day, 1'38’’ behind the winner and Toby Price concludes the stage in 3rd, 1'56’’ behind.

In the general rankings, Howes leads in front of the 2 KTM bikes. Toby Price is only 28’’ behind and Kevin Benavides trails by 2'44’’.

The Hondas ridden by Pablo Quintanilla and AVB are some way off the podium, respectively 15 and 15 minutes behind.

more Mr Howes:

Skyler Howes: “it actually puts me in a good position for tomorrow”
Dakar 2023 | Stage 11 | SHAYBAH > EMPTY QUARTER MARATHON
January 12 th 2023 - 12:22 [GMT + 3]

With the 4th best time a little more than 2 minutes behind the winner, Skyler Howes regains the lead in the general rankings from Kevin Benavides who drops into 3rd. Now Toby Price occupies 2nd place, only 28’’ behind.

Skyler Howes – Stage 11 – ENG
“The stage was really fast, also with lots of dunes – really big dunes too. I felt the rhythm pretty good and had a good pace going. I got stuck on a couple of dunes and had to turn around. I fell over on one of them whilst I was turning around, so it’s kind of a bummer there to lose some time. Also, I had to search for one way point for a little bit. I didn’t get it really perfect, but otherwise it wasn’t really such a huge deal.

“There were a couple of small little mistakes that slowed me down a bit, but it actually puts me in a good position for tomorrow and the bike’s overall in really good condition. So, as far as the marathon stage goes, it was a good first day of it and we’ll see what tomorrow has in store for us.

“I don’t know exactly what the standings are so far, but what I do know is that definitely it’s going to be close. There wasn’t much separating us out there today. I know the times were super close out there today. All it’s going to do is to be tight going all the way in to the finish, which is super exciting”.

Good to hear... Go Skylar! :flag

From the little triangles it looked like he was doing well, but started a ways back and was passing a few triangles along the way.

Looks like epic dunes!!!

Looks like Klein had a rough day...27th, slipping to 9th overall.
Argubright got 20th which is cool.

And Wolfman keeps rolling on with a 10th in class and remains 8th overall Go Petr :flag

I only see two ARO's in the ranking. :(

Yes, reading Mr Mason was in some pain from his racing rheumatism he got when he and Mr AVB’s Honda came together on Stage 9 or whichever.

rooting for Team ARO to have some finishers … big Mr Wolfe fan, now. :laughing

Riding those dunes must be epic!!!!!!

Having slept in a box van a couple times the tent looks pretty comfy.

an example of why I usually post our BARF Dakar thread in the “Adventure Riding” subforum. I’d love to visit SA and follow the Dakar rally a little bit as a spectator, someday:

Here's a toast with "Berber Wiskey" ... tea, ha. :laughing

mad respect for the Team ARO guys, and Mr Wolfie, who all look to be my peers rather than youngsters like Mr Mason. :laughing

on pins and needles to see Mr Howes win it all … :facepalm

speaking of adventure, here’s a short vid about an expedition of the Empty Quarter from the late 1940s:

Arabian Sands is a 1959 book by explorer and travel writer Wilfred Thesiger. The book focuses on the author's travels across the Empty Quarter of the Arabian Peninsula between 1945 and 1950. It attempted to capture the lives of the Bedu people and other inhabitants of the Arabian peninsula. It is considered a classic of travel literature.”

Go Mr. Howes! :ride :flag

Think Mr Mason was struggling with being banged up a little bit. sounds like he's going to finish, though ...
