Dakar Rally time again

Looks like Barrreda is 53 minutes behind Sunderland who is in 1st, putting him in 5th.

Sunderland has a 30 minute lead over teammate Walkner who is in second.

Damn...I knew my "new math" was too good to be true :laughing
I need another cup of coffee!

And here I thought that Gordon's absence would result in a Dakar with less drama. :laughing

I know my math is shit, so I just navigate through Dakar's horrible website and use this; http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2017/us/stage-10/rankings/overall-bikes.html

Well I was using ADV inmate Mischa's site so I have no excuse :laughing
His is usually updated before Dakar's site...

http://trackingdakar.nl/index.php?track=169

And Berreda would be 6+ minutes up on Sunderland without the penalty. Poor Bastard must be fuming.

Now that I can calculate...and it has me fuming, too :mad
I've always believed in Barreda and his ungodly talent and speed, and I knew he'd get his shit together one of these days. Well, one of these days is finally here and he's 54 minutes off the lead with only one more real stage to go. Regardless of where he finishes, I think he has served notice that his reckless days are behind him, and I'm sure he will cross the minds of his competition more than once between now and January 2018.

And here I thought that Gordon's absence would result in a Dakar with less drama. :laughing

Right?? This has been a drama-filled Dakar, that's for sure.

Barrera needs to give up on Honda and get on that big, sexy, orange team. Damn near guaranteed a win if he was riding that bike.

Guy could probably be the next Coma.

At this point HRC clearly has a fast reliable bike. Barreda and Goncalves would be 1-2 overall if they hadn't copped the refueling penalty due to the team manager not understanding the difference between a liaison and a neutralization... and why didn't Brabec know that contacting the organization to ask for assistance would automatically put him out of the race?

HRC's problem is that they're spending millions to compete at Dakar and they've apparently never bothered to understand the rule book.

I'm going to have to agree with your assessment…much as it pisses me off.

Well, KTM has their shit together in the logistics dept as well, another vote for Barreda to jump from the big red ship.

Awesome thread. Awesome battle at the front of the cars.

Enjoying the rally mucho!!

I don't have too much brand loyalty. I like to see things shaken up. KTM owns Dakar when it comes to bikes. But I don't think there'd be anything bad about an upset that puts Honda on the podium. Honestly, much more so than the cars, it seems like between the Hondas & the KTMs, if it weren't for the unfortunate rule issues, it really was down to rider skill more than equipment this time around.

I agree. I'd love to see Barreda win it all on a Honda. I am NOT a fan of Honda, no matter what the discipline is, but I'd love to see someone other than KTM at the top. Unless it was Laia Sanz, of course. I wish this race was about 4 days longer, as she'd have a much better chance. She always comes on strong at the end and seems to always end on a high note, picking riders off as they falter. I would have been psyched to see Pablo Quintanilla and his Husky on the top box, but now that he is out it's all about Barreda's finish, and a possible podium. Nothing against any of the other riders at all.

I make that a second place finish for Lyndon in Malle Moto ...

Go Lyndon! :ride

I was wrenching on my KLR on the sidewalk
in the city yesterday when a KTM guy stopped to say hi,
so I asked if he was watching Dakar ... He told
me a fun story about Lyndon riding with
the Piston&Chain guys here in California and
helping someone build a bike at their clubhouse
in San Francisco... :thumbup

Go Honda (and Yamaha)! :laughing:party

6 bike wins ~ 7 car :wow
Watch out for Loeb next year.

This guy amazed me after checking a little history. Chuck Stearns.
Only Robbie Gordon has more stage wins and nobody has more on a bike. He did that in one year.

:wtf Chuck!! :applause

My google-fu is weak ...
do you have a Chuck Stern link ...? :thumbup

I love the Dakar photos from the big photography agencies. Boston.com's The Big Picture has a great collection.

Thank you for the link! I hadn't looked at them yet, even though I always look forward to them. It's like a black hole, though…once I click on the link I'm there forever :laughing Great photo of Van Beveren in the sand. The one of Walkner is good, too! Hell…they're all good.

Chuck Stearns! He was a Checker, a desert racer from SoCal. Sad story, he died later that year :(

This was his bike!
