Dead Gixxer...

But Connie, Hondas ARE the standard.

Standard for boring, that is. :laughing:rofl

:thumbup

My standards are high. That's why I quickly got rid of all my Suzukis. :laughing.

:p

I appreciate all the input, the advice is way over my head (electrical and I are like matter/anti-matter... it's just bad...), but Dave seems to have pretty good knowledge, and I appreciate his help. If we can get the 2 obvious issues dealt with (starter relay and wiring), that's a huge step in the right direction for solving the problem. It may be that that is all that's wrong (*crosses fingers*)... but regardless, they have to be dealt with. :(

I just wanna ride!!! :cry *kicks rock*

Connie, I'm unfortunately not close enough to help, but if there is a way to remove all the damaged parts of the harness, and it looks rebuildable, I can work on it if you'll mail it to me.

Of course, you may still need a new reg/rec.

I had a battery go bad from over charging due to a bad ground wire from the reg/rect. Honda CBR's are notorious for charging problems. I had just left for a ride and at the local gas station I hit the starter and then everything just went blank. Mach 1 ended up fixing it for me. Battery was bad when load tested.
This problem was due to a BAD plug at the Regulator Rectifier. :wtf
Did the battery get load tested? So the relay has a dead short? The lights should still come on I would think.

Sure load testing the battery is a good thing, but if you are getting 12V at both terminals as it sits you should at least have lights. Until you have that, load testing the battery will do nothing but waste time since the current can't get where you want it anyway.

If a battery has an issue (like having a dead short zapping the life out of it) it may still read 12+ volts but yet when you turn the key on .... nada. Not a waste of time in my book. Whatever happened I would be willing to bet the battery is kaput.
Take your beloved GSXR to a professional and have it repaired and end all this tripe Gixxergirl1000. I would be very interested in what a mechanic finds (I also have a GSXR). I sounds very similar to what happened to my Honda. Best of luck with your bike :teeth

My mechanic is in the middle of family trauma... medical emergency with a lot of fall-out. He won't be available for at least a week, possibly longer. If it's not fixed by then, of course I'll be taking it to him. But between the paycut I got at work, and my ex-husband dumping the horse on me, taking it to Patrick is going to be painful... really painful. So, if Dave's plan of attack resolves the issue, great. Kind of between a rock and a hard place here.

The first gen carbureted R6's were also notorious for melting their RR plugs. Mine did the exact same thing. I ended up snipping a plug from a good wiring harness and replacing the bad scorched plug.

I'll fix it, bring it by. We'll BBQ.. :party

That's what Mach 1 did for me, they had an old harness.

motorcycles and horses? you sure know how to pick cheap hobbies :twofinger

Unfortunately, I thought I was out of horses... ex-husband lost his job, can't afford to keep the Wonderhorse. :( Jimmy has issues (was abused by a previous owner who beat him in the head with a 2x4)... so it won't be easy finding a good home for him, but it's the least I can do, because he deserves that. The timing sure sucks, though.

:love If Dave runs into issues, Ima call you! Which reminds me, I gotta call you anyways about a valve adjustment... :teeth Ima bring the BBQ meats... tri tip work for you?? :party

did you guys inspect the the harness connection thats by the radiator on the right side of the bike? seen a lots of gix with a bad connection there & a couple with a burnt power wire in the connection.

That works.. just let me know.. I have a box of 29mm shims now so you probably won't have to buy any.

step away from the shims. 29mm? what do you think this is a 84 gs1000E? with 4 large valves & step angles theres no very much room for shims. the gsxr1000's have 7.48mm diameter shims, commonly referred to as 7.5. hot cams, k&l sell kits, but they only come in increments of 0.05mm. honda is the only folks that sell them in increments of 0.025mm. so if you really want to get the valves where you want them you have to have both sets.

:laughing no no no... the valve adjustment is for my Toyota Tacoma! Chad rebuilt it after it blew the head gasket, and it needs the valves adjusted! :)

And thank you for the tip about the wiring harness by the radiator! Will go take a look at that now! :)

:laughing

buncha loosers....I could make those big ass shims fit !!!

:)thumbup Chad !! thank you for taking care of Connie's truck ! )

Good info dude.. but it was her truck I'm talking about. :laughing

7.48mm is the only set I don't have so far.
