Did this get posted yet? 2012 ducati 848 streetfighter

I really have lost the plot with Ducati's model strategy. A Streetfighter smaller than the larger Monster?

The Monster 1100 is air/oil cooled, with 100hp.

The 848 is a liquid cooled superbike engine, with 140hp.

The Streetfighter basically replaced the Monster S4R family, and all Monsters are air/oil cooled now....

So what's the count, 3 Monsters, 3 Streetfighters so 6 various naked bikes? 9 if you count the retards?

lost.

What are you talking about..? :| At one point Ducati offered the Monster in a 400cc, 600, 620/695, 750, 800, 900, and 1000cc power plants. Then, there was the SuperSport, the MultiStrada and the Sport Classic with essentially the same motors... It's all about choice and what a would be buyer want's from a bike... Not everybody cares for or can afford a beast with a 1000cc + SuperBike engine that pumps out 155 Hp or more..! You do realize that gas prices are going up and also smaller displacement models are way more popular in Europe and Asia than in America, right..? Hence one of those continents being Ducati's point of origin... :ride

Edit: I meant, "155 Hp or more" No, "55"

This 848 Promises to hit a sweet spot. Course the roads ridden determine sweet spots what works best in the power can be applied and how it delivers/Handling mix.

But, this fighter should be just right, not too big, not too little, and kick ass power for most any situation on a public road.

If it develops a following...an 848 Hyper should follow..maybe a 848 Multistrada as well.

I didn't like these pics of the bike in yellow at all, but when you look at other pictures, it turns out it basically looks exactly like the bigger streetfighter, which I dig. I'm not gonna be passing Rossi anytime soon, but it'd be a kick to ride an 848 without the racebike ergs.

Then again, I don't have 12k burning a hole in my pocket either.

^^^ That too..! :thumbup

And now the new EVO engines are pumping out more power than the previous models. *I wouldn't put it past me if Ducati offers a Multistrada with an 848 liquid cooled engine in the future..! :ride

It would be like this:

Monster.......696 (entry level) Most noticeable features: wet clutch, dual sided swingarm, 120/60 Front tire, 160/60 Rear tire

Monster.......796, 1100, 1100S
Hypermotard.796, 1100, 1100SP

Multistrada..*848, 1200, 1200S
Streetfighter.848, 1198, 1198S
Superbike.....848, 1198, 1198SP

And my own personal prediction (you heard it here first): :party

Superbike.....849, 1199, 1199SP

I agree with you. But just to clarify. All Hypers have a 2 valves per cyl. air cooled engine and the 848's SuperSport/SuperBike derived engine is a liquid cooled 4 valves per cyl. I don't see the Hyper getting the heavier 848 liquid cooled engine in the future. :)

When Ducati tells the current Hyper owners they Want the 848 Ass Kicker Hyper, There will be a stampede on the Dealerships to get them :laughing

fack me, i want me a streetfigher, 1098 or 848 i dont give a flying fuck, that bike is fukn gorgeous

Only if it comes with a free cup of Italian espresso..! :laughing

The biggest problem with this bike is it's big brother. Why the fuck would you buy the 848 streetfighter? At least the 848 has a good place on the track and in the appropriate racing leagues, but on the street? Why?

The bike looks okay, love the look of the twin pipes, but they must weigh 50lbs.

I love the look of the Brutale (or what ever it's called) a lot.

Triple

Cause it's cheaper. Offers better gas mileage. It's far more tamed around city streets. It has a wet clutch for easy shifting. And it's the sex regardless of what some internet loser thinks..! :rolleyes

Cheaper? Buy a monster. Better gas mileage? Buy a monster. Wet clutch for "easier shifting"? Dry clutch on it's big brother is just fine.

I like the looks of the big SF too. This one just has one less reason to like it, the stonkin' engine. I've put a few hundred miles on the SF and 848s the and this union is just parts bin motorcycle design. Still looks good but boring and pointless. :laughing

Not everybody wants what Z3n likes... :twofinger

BTW: The 848 EVO pumps out 40 more HP than a Monster 1100 EVO..! And it's liquid cooled engine is better for when sitting in heavy traffic than an air cooled Monster..! :nerd

Just griping ;)

Id rather see a new supermono.

Figure that this is gonna make a bit less power for the same reasons the SF makes less power.

:)

So? Get an aftermarket seat..

Z3n - I'm with Joe on this - there is a lot to love about a smaller displacement bike that still rips - you can use a lot more of the power and that can be more satisfying.. On my Z1000 I rarely ever use the last 3,000 of the rpm range, while on my Street Triple I frequently run it up to redline in the first couple gears - and the Street Triple is way lighter..

A smaller bike will always be more nimble too due to the lower reciprocating mass of the engine (witness the new GSXR 600 vs GSXR 750 - 7 lbs difference, but the 600 is way more nimble/flickable)

For the street, having a bike that makes 100hp at the rear wheel can potentially be more fun and satisfying to ride hard than a bike that makes 140hp at the rear wheel.. You can just get on it way harder on a smaller bike rather than something like a 1098 Streetfighter where you always have to baby the thing until you get a wide open stretch.. A 1000cc bike is not without its charms - I absolutely love my short-geared Z1000 - but for sure smaller displacement sport bike is not a downgrade at all..

I love the look of that new Ducati 848 SF - if they get the ergos right, a 140hp engine tuned for torque will be an absolute blast to ride on the street, which is all that really matters..

just so we don't confuse people lets make it clear. all of them have seats that jam you into the tank and crush your balls. that part doesn't change.

It is a little known fact that you must possess balls of carbon fiber reinforced steel in order to ride an Italian motor bike..! :ride

It's all in the Bible..! :darkangel
