Diesel Motorcycles

so is the VERY BASIC answer that unleaded fuel engines are just more reliable that diesel at this point? From the reading i've been doing, it seems like the diesel engines are just too bulky/heavy for a practical application on motos

It's not about reliability, it's that for a given weight, cost, and size, a diesel is generally going to have a lower power output, and that's damn tough to market to motorcyclists.

Dude, I now have a 7,000# truck and a 2,600# car with nearly the same horsepower rating. I know which one is good for what, and which one I could sell to some idiot kid wanting to go act like an douchebag in the twisties. :D

Maybe a big "adventure" bike with a diesel engine would appeal to the same type of people who bought the original civilian version Humvees - a novelty. As a normal street bike, don't see the point.

Why not?

The point of the Ducati is that normally when you're diagnosing why a duck won't start, it is either the fuel or the spark.

With a diesel, you can safely eliminate one of these.

if it could be sold at a affordable price i would be interested in a street legal dirt bike running a multi fuel motor.

this way no mater were i am at i can fuel up.

.

No, I meant I believed it was actually an alternate poweplant, rather than a wannabe military styled branding effort bike.

So...how long before somebody buys one and actually tried running it on diesel and permafucks their brand new motor?

I know :rofl
I'm in the same boat, I would love me a torque monster bike with killer
mpg. Fill up once, ride to Reno then cut over to 36 by way of the back roads
then down 1 and home.
When they become more main stream in the states , I'll be looking at them.
