Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Ya, the 35mm gets cropped and pretty much acts like a 50mm lens right now except the pictures are smaller. Didn't think of it when I got the D600, this 35mm f1.8 lens been my favorite lens ever since I got it.

Not sure if this belongs here, but I'm guessing you lot are the target demographic...

Color printer died this morning. This is the 3rd Canon we've tried, so not going there again, but we didn't fare much better with a consumer-level HP either.

In my opinion, a printer should last longer than 3 sets of cartridges. And the cartridges should not be half the price of the printer (or more).

Torn between:

- Just getting a $30 cheapie so we have something at home

- Getting a 4x6 photo-only printer

- Blowing our collective wad on a decent >$400 color printer.

It seems it's not worth anything at the ~$100-$150 price range, because the ink is so damn expensive, and they really don't last long.

I'm only considering getting a decent printer for home use because of the need for doing 8x10, decent quality nudes. But it's not that often that clients want a print - most just want them electronically, or in a book (Blurb.com).

Here is a link of the top 5 printers from Cnet. http://reviews.cnet.com/best-printers/
I always like epson. They make really good printers. Do you buy your ink online or at the store? You can usually find them for half price or more on Amazon.
Do you have a website. I want to see nudes.

Interesting - the user reviews of all of those sucked ass, and mostly for the same reasons that I've hated all my current printers, the 14-year-old monochrome LaserJet excepted, which happily churns out at least a couple of thousand pages per $100 ink cartridge - i.e. insane ink prices, shitty reliability. The search continues...

I have flickr strip it out, too much info. I put what I use in my tags. What did you want to see in my exif data?

I just was curious about the focal length for some of those americas cup shots. I'm sorta in market for a zoom lens.

I was using the nikon 70-300mm f4-5.6g, most of of the shots were at 300mm. Fantastic lens.

If you ask, you shall receive. Out of the six galleries I like the pinups the most(photography wise). What the hell are these pictures use for? Just for your website?

Looking for some help picking a budget DSLR camera from the used market. I have used regular SLR cameras a good bit. ~$350 range. To be used for taking pictures of the kid and such. I don't need 1000mp, just want a quality image from a nice camera. Any ideas what cameras to stay away from and what to look for when buying used?

there are probably a number of entry level nikon or canon's available around that price range, can't really go wrong with any brand. maybe nikon d3000 or canon rebel t1? i dont follow the entry lvl cameras at all but they should do fine for snapshots and such

+1.

There really aren't any lemons out there, especially if you stick with Canon/Nikon.

Might get more bang for buck with Sony, but then you have fewer lenses, less general availability.

You might just want to up your price point a little get something new with a warranty etc. - you can get an awful lot of camera for ~$500 these days.

Wait a few weeks and the black friday/ Christmas specials will start to come out. Frankly, a lot of people i think ask too much for their used cameras with no warranty. Also try out a refurb direct from Canon if you want to save money, they have a 60 day warranty.

Thanks for the advice. I'll hold off until Black Friday, but I really didn't want to spend more than $300, I bumped it to $350 since it looks like most of the used DSLRs are $300-$350 with a lens.

You should look for mirrorless cameras also. Has almost the same capabilities as a DSLR but smaller.
