Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

The first lens I bought was a 50. For portraits I actually prefer the 60mm macro, it's sharper than the 50 using autofocus, and you can get in close if you want.

When I get my fill with the 50mm, then I'll definitely give the 60mm macro a try, thanks! :thumbup

Bump.

Still with my Nikon D100. If I want to use it for shooting scenery or my bike, or my bike with scenery, what lens should I look into (pun intended)?

depends what kind of scenery you want behind your bike. Like if you want to go to Oakland or Alameda and you want your background to be of the SF city. You would want a telephoto lens so the city seems closer to the background. But lets say you want to take a picture under the bridge, then you would want a wide angle lens. Or if you want a simple portrait picture of you bike on the side of the road, the 50mm f1.8 is fine for that.

I have a D600 (fullframe) and most of my bike shot are made with a 24mm (~35mm on a small sensor). This is wide enough to include some scenery yet narrow enough to provide a nice motorcycle portrait :).

Here is an example with a 35mm (~50mm on small sensor):

The thing is that you have to try the lens that better fit your eyes and the kind of composition you like.

I really like this website https://pixelpeeper.com . It allows you to pick up a lens, a camera and see some result.
