DMV renewal tests

What a hassle.

How much trouble would I be in if I "imported" a few bullets from Idaho for you poor California gun owners next time I come to California? :laughing

What about making a run to Reno to stalk up?

Seriously, I'm curious what laws stop people from bringing that stuff in from other states.

You can't now take your already owned/legally purchased bullets out of state (say for a hunting trip) and bring even one round back across the border. :afm199

"...shall not be infringed".

There's a bit of a gap between "you shall not" [legally] and you cannot [capability].

I could run my SUV over to Reno and buy a bunch of ammo. I could drive back to my house. Who's going to know?

It only becomes a problem when you break up with your girlfriend and she tells the CADOJ out of pure spite. :thumbdown

Of course there is, you don't think everyone knows that? :wow

I don't recall ever having to retake the driver's written test. Is that triggered by moving violations?

I also have no idea what people are talking about. Never had to take any tests when renewing.

Neither have I, and I recently did the RealID. I carried my passport while I was waiting for it to come in. I did end up needing it to buy wine at the grocery store. Hell, at my age, I was just pleased to be carded. :laughing

My understanding was that it is not legal for a California resident to purchase ammunition in another state, and then bring it back themselves into the state. If you purchased the ammunition in California you and left the state with it you could bring it back.

From the CA DOJ:

As a California resident, can I bring ammunition from another state into California?

No. Effective January 1, 2018, it is unlawful for a resident of the State of California to bring or transport any ammunition acquired outside of the State of California unless it is first delivered to a licensed California Ammunition Vendor, unless exempt. (Pen. Code, § 30314.)

Lawfully purchased before Jan 1 2018- no joy- no over & backs. Never mind that you didn't mark each round in that bucket full of ammo just to be sure :shame

Sounds like Cisco is writing the test questions for DMV.

It's somewhat infuriating when you just know the correct response to a question will not be the one that passes.

Maybe if they'd get someone with a legitimate English language degree to edit these tests.

Nah, never happen.

Scott- Passport might be good for booze, but potentially a problem for a California resident purchasing a firearm and now ammo. Lack of address an issue, though good for the picture portion of the process.

Ridiculous loophole I have seen discussed regarding out-of-state ammo.

Go to Scheel's with your wife. Interpretation of the law regarding gifting, is she can buy it and immediately hand it to you saying,

"Here honey, I bought this bucket of 9mm for our anniversary."

Dumb law, dumber exceptions.

Don't 'stalk' up stealthily sneaking across the border. Just enlist the aid of your spouse.

Whammy's Real ID experience.
Walked in and got to a window in 10 minutes. Yes they do walk ins.
Filled out the online computer form at DMV 5 minutes.
Processing paperwork proving who you are Birth cert, Bills saying where you live picture taken etc. 8 mins.
Got new Real ID in less than a week.... HOWEVER despite me going over the part about the M1 on the form and telling the lady behind the counter yes i have a M1
This new license has no M1 on it :mad:rolleyes:deadhorse

So I'm giving out this number so anyone who finds their new Real ID missing the M1 endorsement call them & yes you will have to be on hold forever(me it was 21 mins), but at least you don't have to traipse back to the Department of Meatheads and point this out to them.
I called this number 916 657-8545 kindly give them your name and identify yourself. Tell them despite your best efforts the DMV left the M1 off your license.
They will shuffle through their antiquated computer equipment and make the changes necessary. They will tell you that it could take 30 days for a correction. They might send you a amendment to your license showing you have the M1 so you can ride.
Such is life :wow

Just to clarify, the reason most of you had to retake the test for your renewal is because you are dinosaurs, right? :laughing:ride

It'd be legit if they would let you bypass retaking the written if you took another MSF course.

Wrong again NorCal kiddo.

Test every time you renew

I didn't - got mine middle of last month and kept the M1 endorsement, etc. Maybe it depends on which DMV you go to. I went to the Rocklin DMV and was in and out pretty quickly (with an appt). :)

My license is CDL AM1, I didn’t have to take any tests but they wanted so much proof of who I am and citizenship. That just the license and Real ID are the same process.

I had to retake the driving and M1 written tests when I did the Real ID thing over a year ago. I'm in my 40's with a clean driving record so I'm not sure if there's any rhyme or reason to it. Appt at Santa Theresa office, all done in under an hour.

Uhm, no. I renewed last year and didn't have to take a test.

If you are turning 66 years old, you have to re-take the Eye Test. Ironically, I was convinced that drivers were now Required to be legally blind. Like part of the CDLs for Anyone Program.

Scariest place to ride/drive? The DMV parking lot in Daly City!
