Do You Mountain Bike?

Nice vid - it's getting me fired up!

That was Beavers who sent you the vid? Did he get a clean run down last year? I remember he didn't finish as well in 07 as he did in 06 - I was just wondering.

Looks like there's a good chance that I'll be back at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall to finish up my engineering degree. If it happens, you'll have to show me those trails you were talking about :)

ya curt sent me that. aka-beavs. he flatted last yr atleast once, mighta been twice, or during the xc. for sure once on the dh though. he's looking prime this year though. very fast on his new bike. im doing a "training run" with him mid june. ill try and keep up

Hey everyone,

I have a DT Swiss Cerit rear hub on my Alex DP20 wheels(nothing that fancy) and it has a lot of play in it. As in you can grab the wheel and rock it back and forth and feel the play. I'm curious as to what my options are on repairing this? Do I just buy a new hub and have it put on(is that even possible?) Can this hub be repaired? Or am I better off buying a whole new wheel somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

So is anyone else going to run tubeless at downieville? i have a little downtime and might set this thing up with no tubes as a time passer/weight loss/ flat preventer. whats the consensus?

Looking at other "What Tires for Downieville" threads on MTBR, it's a pretty popular combination. Joe and I both do.

I'm almost wondering if I can run a slightly lower pressure to get a little more traction, but I'm hesitant to because of the threat of the tire "burping" and losing air.

So who's going to downieville memorial day weekend? Buddy kevin and i are going up friday evening at some point, camping sat night and coming home sunday. plan is 5 runs. LETS GO PEOPLE!!!! snows melting

That video was sweet! I'd totally eat crap on that trail. I dropped my bike off for a tune-up today, walked out with some clip-in shoes and pedals (I'm probably going to hurt myself...). After taking 8 months off I can't wait to get back out and start riding!

We should try and get JP out to Annadel sometime - I think that week-long bike camping sufferfest his old housemate took him on totally turned him off of it. Hope to see ya out there!

I see the climb that will make or break your ride (3rd video)...

I read somewhere that the climb is what separates Weir from the other top downhillers. For the rest of us, I don't think there's one thing that makes or breaks the ride.

Can we take our dirtbikes up there?:p

Dunno what the rules are about em, but I've seen em out there. With all the work that goes into maintaining the trails, I'd figure most mountain bikers aren't too keen on them.

Tempting :)

god thats a horrible picture. didn't hurt much at all, my shoulder too the big beating. after 3 loops i was feeling it, after not riding for a good 3 weeks. Chasing a pro DH'er down sawpit on our second loop on that trail. was keeping up pretty good, but about 3/4 the way down, after the climb past the rock garden, where it drops down again. Just tucked the front end on a corner when it got in the loose stuff off line. Was pretty cool, as i was falling, he clipped a tree with his bar and i saw him fall too. All the while, he cracked the proto bike he was riding. Def my 2 fastest runs down sawpit ever though. All on a 4" loaner bike. Can't wait to get my fork back.

Stan's works pretty damn well even at slightly lower tire pressures.

Just do these 2 things to insure it will work for you.
1) Mount the Stan's up plenty of time in advance - this will not only give you a chance to really seat the tire in good to the rim,(on local rides) but, also let you know if you have a wheel / tire combo that doesn't work well with Satn's. You definitely want to know about it ahead of time.
2) Make sure you have plenty of Stan's solution (liquid) in your wheel for your race, so if you do start to flat on the run , there is enough solution to seal it. :thumbup

Hey Joe, what's the status on the shoulder?

Anyone else thinking of doing Downieville on Memorial Day weekend?

Just back from the ortho. Either a badley bruised rotator cuff or torn.
Scheduled next Wednesday for a dye injected :( :barf MRI. Won't know until then.

If it's bruised I'll be outta work and off the bike for a few weeks.
If it's torn, I'll be outta work and off the bike for 4-6 months. FUCK!

OK. everyone think positive thoughts for me.
