The Critics Have Spoken...

When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. ~H.G. Wells

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. ~Ernest Hemingway

Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride. ~John F. Kennedy

I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like ~Queen

Get off your fat ass and ride... ~Rick T.

Tamarancho backwards was sweet! To anyone who hasn't done it, I highly recommend it if you're a local and can make it out there during the week to avoid traffic. It flowed very well and introduced some new fun techy small climbs. Solis and I headed out there today for another recovery run. We had a blast! Now I gotta start finding more time to log more miles.......but man right now, I just love me some Tamarancho (god I bet its annoying hearing me talk about this place all the time) :teeth

no kidding

Hey MTBR.com called for you, they said theres some squids with expensive DH bikes wanting to know how to lose weight and they need you back :twofinger....oh wait where's the other smiley......:rolleyes

It's aight though, I know you're just mad cuz you don't ride an I-DRIVE :rofl

I just started mountain biking about a month ago Ditched my $20 toys r us bike that I used to bike around town with and I bought a specialized hardrock sport.

great fun exercise, I lost 10lbs

I just ride this little trail that is close to my house. Not very technical but a lot of fun.

What gear do you guys wear?

When I ride the flat trails I squid it up in my regular street or gym clothes and a hat.

Keep riding and you'll melt the weight away. As for gear, what you wear going around your block is up to you - "squid it up" like you said. But if you decide you want to start venturing out on real trails - and there are plenty here in NorCal - then you probably want to invest a bit in good gear. As a minimum, you should have a good helmet and pair of full-fingered gloves. Then consider cycling-specific shorts (baggy or traditional), jersey/shirt (moto style or traditional) and then finally mtb shoes that you can eventually attach some cleats to for your clipless pedals - all this as you progress.

The following have great deals on gear right now:

I got some $ for my birthday and have been contemplating two possible ~ $500 upgrades for my hardtail XC mtn bike (one or the other, not both).

One possibility is a new fork... I can get a great deal on the Fox 100 RLC

or a new very light (less than 1400g/ set) wheelset from notubes.com

Which choice would help me most at the Sea Otter (beginner) races?
