EA235 Yes, he's gone

God damn it, I am going to miss you waving that finger at me whether I beat you that race or you beat me. Rest in peace friend.

i didn't know eric personally, but i followed all the incidents the day they happened and i am truly saddened and touched by all of this :( despite him never knowing or having a direct influence on me, i sort of put my AFM aspirations on hold from the incident he had. when i would talk to real life friends and family about motorcycles/racing, etc i would tell them stories like eric's and how such tragic events can happen that you have no fault in, and no control over. for this to be the end result of all that he has battled for, i am deeply sorry, however i think it takes more strength to do what eric did in his situation than to do nothing. rip .. :rose

I didn't know Eric that well personally, but seeing him as I pulled up to the track was one of my touchstones at the start of a day. His willingness to throw himself into hard work, love of riding, skill at riding, dedication to instruction, and concern for the riding community radiated from him.

When we ride we're all chasing something; Eric embodied much of what I chase.

Eric was such a fine man. Generous with his time, incredibly gracious and friendly and a great competitor. I will miss him greatly.

May peace be with you.

Hey people I got a PM from another Barfer thinking... ...Well here is the PM so you get it with my reply at the bottom as I did not type maybe what I meant well enough. I suck as my mind works faster than my hands can type. :)

(quote) Seesm sorry to bring this up but thought you might want to know. After reading your post on Eric's second chance (gift) for life, it may be construed as he didn't take it because of the conditions. I am sure you didn't mean this as I read some of your other posts but just wanted you to know the gift post can be misconstrued. Just an FYI. We all know the tragedy is he felt bad enough that he decided to take things into his own hands. He will be missed (end quote)

I meant LIFE is a GIFT even if we do not like how it is presented. I should have typed more as I had a long thought on it all. But anyway the jist was take life for what it is or for what it was intended no matter what.

Eric was a gift to his friends it seems and it is sad he did not or was not able to see what else life may have had to offer. Eric had a great life and it is truly a shame he did not get to see more of what it had to offer (in a different way than he would have wanted)

We all have had things (I think most of us anyway) in life that have made us think "what would I do in that situation. I do get a little of what Eric was thinking...

Racing AMA Supercross years ago I got hurt pretty bad a few times and once had temporary "less feeling" in my legs... I remember thinking "IF" I could not live the life I had before I too said I would bow out gracefully... I get it fully and of course Eric had ALOT more to deal with.

I am just bummed as he was a inspiration (I thought that many time after) truly and I looked forward to getting to know him.

I PMed with him a few times prior to the accident about getting into instructing and posted on his threads after.

He just seemed like a good guy and again I am bummed.

RIP 235 (line up all the cool tracks for us will ya?)

Seesm, thanks for taking a look at your post. I understand what you meant, just didn't want anyone else to take it the wrong way. Yeah, I agree with your post above and indeed Eric had much more on his plate, RIP. Thanks for not taking my FYI the wrong way either.

how about this everyone...

come one, come all, and wear purple if you got it...

no rules

just come, come on bikes, come in cars, fly, walk, run, jog, skate, wheel on over :thumbup
Will try my best. Are purple briefs, okay?

I reached out to Helmut to get the artwork from the back of Eric's leathers. It was a cutout that Eric brought in and Helmut's staff used it as a template to create Eric's signature leathers. I never noticed the little details, like the red stiching in the wings.

In the words of Helmut:

"The dragon will continue to fly and it looks like then he was flying already."
This is really odd. It is either totally coincidental or..... your choice.
This has been my track leather design for a while. But, they were just done. And they have not hit the track, yet.

RIP, Eric

Didn't know you well, but after hearing of your misfortune and reading your words I could clearly sense both your pain and desire at the same time. What a shame. Hope you found peace, and your friends and family will in time find it as well.

Godspeed to a fellow racer.

Rest in peace Eric. You will be missed.

Eric's memorial

To all who joined us on Saturday,

Eric's family and friends were overwhelmed and overjoyed at the great number of motorcycle brothers and sisters that showed up. It was standing room only and the clebration of Eric's life was moving and enlightening. Was also great to hear things about Eric from the people who new him outside of motorcycles, but one thing that was for certain...

The man loved to race :thumbup

ps. Pat I barrowed your poem and used it in my eulogy, it moved me, and I think it hit the nail right on the head. :cool

To all who joined us on Saturday
It was definitely an amazing turnout, and a real testament to the number of people he'd touched during his life.

The word at the end of the ceremonies on Saturday was that Eric's final written message to his friends/fellow riders-racers was going to be posted up on Eric's Blog site, in lieu of reading it to the group at that time.

Been checking in on the site since that time, and it seems to not have been updated yet. Any word on when that will be happening Eddy?

Thanks.
