Express lanes are making bank

The only proven way to reduce freeway congestion is priced express lanes, which were pioneered 25 years ago on Orange County’s SR 91."
COVID did a great job reducing congestion in the BA - in my opinion, allowing lots of people to work from home is the best way to reduce congestion.
Yesterday, I saw an 18 wheeler in the left toll lane.
Every time I see semis or people towing trailers in the left lanes I really wish CHP would give them a ticket (or at least pull them over and "educate" them.

I have always thought this would make for a reasonable defense if pulled over for speeding, err, riding in spirited fashion.

"Speeding? Officer that cannot be correct. I was slowly passing that F-350 pulling the trailer. So, I must have been traveling only 60 mph tops. He's bound to 55 mph, right?" ;)

Does anyone know what percentage of the revenue goes to the companies running these systems for the government?

I looked and only found general information. I am not sure if it is like red light camera's where an outside source takes a slice. The MTA may be running them themselves.... :dunno

Somebody is making some duckets on the tech and hardware, but that would be expected.

Didn’t know HOV and express lane are free for motorcycles!! Thank goodness.

I have been taking advantage of my EV sticker for HOV lane use, otherwise it would be $$$.

HOV for sure, Express, you need to check with your local agency. Down here, of the ones near me, only the Eastbound 91 charges motorcycles, and only between 4 and 6pm. Otherwise they're free.

I do not know about the new ones on the 10, or the ones elsewhere, as I don't frequent those routes.

Charging Motorcyclists is evil shite!!!

Agreed. The stated goal was to reduce traffic...can't say any more without getting political.

Not sure I follow how that shows I'm naive....
I was not stating that was my belief.
