Okay I wanted to ride the BMW F800GS and I stopped waiting for it to arrive here is the US. So I took off to Berlin and rented the bike and I ended up riding it to Nordkapp, Norway. :cool

And of course I had to see the Trollstigen. :ride

Well the bike.

A ton of torque.

The bike felt very light and it was very easy to maneuver.

The bike was solid on the highway and going off road was fine.

Great MPG’s on the bike. The best was close to 70 MPG.

Was able to do a 500+ mile day without a problem.

The only thing that I did not like so much was the suspension it’s was very soft and the bike would dip hard under braking. Also the seat height was a high for me but I learned to live with it.

Overall it was a great bike, but I think that I might be looking into the 1200GS over the 800GS. Unless the F800GS has a better suspension or a telelever.

so does it wheelie it 1st 2nd ...3rd????? :ride

do the pegs scrape ????

seat comfy on long hauls ???

c'mon

there will be a low seat option available...

:hail

that rules!

but i still hate you. :twofinger

i inquired about the bmw euro buy and ship to the us thing but that is for cars only currently.. it's where you buy a beamer while on vacation in europe and then they ship it to any us dealer at, i believe, no extra charge.

i'm hitting berlin and liepsig next may, i wanted to go to the m'era luna festival 9-10 august at hildesheim, but i cannot this year. :rant... i was planning and renting one of those as well... maybe they will do the euro buy and ship thing in may..

more pictures please.. :)

Won't the 1200 be too low compared to the towering 800? :teeth

Nice pics, nice concise review, nice bike.

If Phil Douglas can get our DR650's forks to feel good, I'm sure he can work some magic on the F800, especially now that he's affiliated with Calmoto.

I'm blown away by the MPG's....did it really get 70?!?!? :wow How many miles were you getting out of a tank (I could do the math, I just don't know how big the tank is :p )

take a looki at the ktm 690 enduro ... it hauls :thumbup

I have! Unfortunately, I'm currently getting out of the dirty/sm lineup by selling my DRZ...

I'll reenter the dirty/sm market in a year or perhaps two. I just have too many bikes at the moment, too many of which I'm reluctant to do slab on.

The options in the market seem like they are about to explode next year or the year after, then used bikes will be all over the market?

There is little that you can do for a DR650 except sell it and get one that has a real suspension system on it. :p

What you may wish to do it just put better forks and a shock on, but you might as well get a KTM, Aprilla or Husqvarna for the extra that will cost.

Japanese bikes are really cheap new for a reason, they lack things like good brake lines, suspension systems, and various other higher quality components commonly found on European Motorcycles. Of course you can add all that later at your option and expense.

I would suspect that would produce between 45 and 75 mpg depending on where and how it was ridden with a 190 - 320 mile driving range.

The only con with that bike is it still weighs 400 pounds dry, and yes, as the OP found, he might as well get the 1200GS.

My personal choice from BMW is the HP2.

well the best the i saw on a tank was about 510 kilometers or something like that (that about 316 miles) and that on a 4.2 gallon tank.
