F800GS

The only con with that bike is it still weighs 400 pounds dry, and yes, as the OP found, he might as well get the 1200GS.

i do think that the 1200gs would be a better bike all around then the 800gs, but without the same MPG.

but who cares about MPG's when gas in the USA is cheap :ride (compared to Europe. the most i paid for a gallon of gas was about $12.00) :ride

Well the bike.

The only thing that I did not like so much was the suspension it’s was very soft and the bike would dip hard under braking. Also the seat height was a high for me but I learned to live with it.

Overall it was a great bike, but I think that I might be looking into the 1200GS over the 800GS. Unless the F800GS has a better suspension or a telelever.

I am confused. A lot of the US reviews I have read from owners say the suspension (especially up front) is too HARD. It blows my mind that BMW would put out a bike that all said and done will be $14-15k out the door, and not put adjustable suspension on it. $4000 dirt bikes have adjustable suspension! But a bike that will have to chameleon from a single rider to two-up with 50-100 pounds of gear and a full tank and not have the ability to change anything blows me away. I would argue that cost of the technology that goes into making a speed sensitive progressive suspension is way more than the cost to put rider-adjusted compression and damping dials. Okay I am done. I really want one but do not want to sink another grand into getting the forks up to par.

Looks like an awesome trip! I rode up e6 in Norway in 04, but only made it 1/2 way (family in Mosjoen). Same dorky aerostich :)

I was at BMW Moto SF today and they had two F800GS bikes on the floor. Very nice indeed! Much better than the pics I've seen online
