So what is the solution here. We had a jury decide that the evidence did not show probable cause that Darren Wilson committed a crime. That is the system we have in this nation. Since people are so angry about what happened, then what do we change it to?

There's no such thing as a "Ferguson solution" because this is not isolated; instead, its happening all over the country and will need to be addressed on a national level. The injustice is based on economic parity which is getting ever wider in the U.S. The solution was already presented decades ago during Martin Luther King's "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom." Note how the corporate media left out the "JOBS" part during the last anniversary. Having jobs that pay well solves all problems. People who have opportunities have a reason to plan for a secure future and they will not resort to "criminal activity". If you are financially unstable, you can't plan for the future and you can't make good decisions.

The real reason Ferguson is boarding up its storefronts

Nothing is safe in St. Louis. But the culprit is not protest—it is the lack of investment in and support for black communities, a pattern that has replicated itself in the region for decades. Protests did not destroy Ferguson. Destruction—social, economic, and political—created the protests. In St. Louis, one can drive from neighborhoods boarded up out of fear to neighborhoods boarded up due to abandonment. Unless systemic racism and economic discrimination are addressed, Ferguson may transition from the former to the latter.

The solution ? Everyone pull out. Take all the stores out. Take all the money out. Take the Post Office out, no more mail delivery, no more nothing. Leave it to the looters. All the liquor will be gone within a couple days. All the groceries will be gone. Fuck em, let them live like wild dogs, since they are acting like them.

I see someone has a very broad brush... :rolleyes

Anyone have data on the folks arrested during the nocturnal looting spree? Would be interested to see how many were residents and how many were from out of town.

Solution: merge the 4 Ferguson threads or start a 5th. We've only one shot at getting this right. God I hope we make the right decision.

You are delusional if you think making more jobs available will eliminate crime. Sure it will reduce crime, but I guarantee incidents like this will still happen against people of all color.

I see someone has a very broad brush... :rolleyes

The point is that people are angry with the justice system decision. If a jury of 12 is racist, what is acceptable?

Do you know what white flight is? It is when middle class whites leave a crumbling neighborhood, and poor blacks and Latinos move in, creating a ghetto.

But ever talk to a white person who fled? They may be angry or guilty, even express racist opinions. But they are not responsible. Would I live in a
ghetto?

And it is not simply skin color. Living in the East Bay, it is a nice mix of middle class of all races. But would I live in East Oakland? Hell no!

So how did East Oakland come to be? Maybe because the landlords live in Marin?

What about Ferguson, a black town with an almost entirely white police department?

The Oakland protests are actually boring. Protestors met at Frank Ogawa Plaza, took over 580, then menaced downtown Oakland the rest of
the night. Seen that before.

Why didn't they go to Rockridge? Montclair? Berkeley? Lafayette?

Solution: merge the 4 Ferguson threads or start a 5th. We've only one shot at getting this right. God I hope we make the right decision.

I started this thread because I am curious what the side that is angry about the decision that there is not sufficient evidence to put Darren Wilson on trial. How would they like these cases handled, I genuinely would like to know. I didn't want the conversation buried in with a thread detailing current events, hence the new thread.

Much like how certain indoctrinated religion teaches their people to behead and stone, ghetto people are taught to steal, loot, and commit crime. There really is no solution unless the big corporations like Walmart cuts their billion dollar profits and pay their workers a decent living wage without increasing the cost of living. Just think if every major corporation paid their workers higher wages and decreased the rich to poor margin, I believe that would help out.

Of course, this is 'Murca, land of capitalism.

Capitalism - noun - an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

Capitalize - verb - take the chance to gain advantage from.

:2cents

EDIT: Ever wonder why there isn't a Walmart on the Peninsula side of the Bay? Probably because they can't pay workers $7.25/hr for 30 hrs per week and expect them to live. No one would work there.

This protest is not about jobs. You can try to punt because you don't have a good answer, but there are no signs or chants asking for more jobs or better pay. The chants are "Hands up, don't shoot," and "No justice, no peace, no racist police."

If a jury of 12 is not justice, what is?

If you believe the verdict was BS, then there is no solution. But the court system and the jury do not make decisions based on emotion (at least they're not supposed to). It is supposed to be a fair and impartial system. I would be more inclined to agree with a grand jury's decision than a bunch of protesters who think looting is the solution to all their problems.

Are you of the mind that every single resident of Ferguson is a looting piece of shit?

Riots were going to happen no matter the decision. The participants in the looting, vandalism, arson.... Just waited for an excuse. No indictment, say you're angry, indictment, say you're celebrating.

True protestors were the ones calling for non-violence while practicing their right for lawful assembly.

From the Washington Post.

Try reading that; the whole thing, not just the first three paragraphs (which do read as the 'poor me' whining of the learned helpless). Suffices to say you wouldn't stand for it if it was happening to you.

As I understand it, what's happening in Missouri has happened in a much larger context than one arguably justifiable homicide, and there are a large number of people who feel that policing in this country does not reflect the values of the population it is intended to serve / control.

People are speaking too broadly here. IMO it comes down to personal choice. I'm sure everyone here has heard "Think globally, act locally"? Well, there will always be the power hungry, the corrupt, the mean-spirited, the bigot, the racist, the fascist etc. What they do to the rest of us is really beyond our control. How we act/react to them and what we do is what will determine the outcome in nearly any situation.

Ben Stern said it best, "Don't be stupid you moron"

Are you really looking for input towards a solution? Because when you use words like "delusional" and "guarantee", it sounds like you're looking for a platform to tell everyone they're wrong.

This protest is not about jobs. You can try to punt because you don't have a good answer, but there are no signs or chants asking for more jobs or better pay. The chants are "Hands up, don't shoot," and "No justice, no peace, no racist police."

Ferguson did not happen overnight, and it wasn't simply anger about the young Mr. Brown. This particular incident ignited passions that have been boiling for a long, long time, in places more numerous than Ferguson and Oakland. I will guarantee you that there HAVE been protests with the majority of signs proclaiming a need for jobs and investment.

Clearly we need a final solution to the Fergusson problem. We should make sure that none of the white cops can hurt anyone by rounding them up and putting them in camps.

Sorry, I give no fucks about the rioters in Ferguson right now. After watching videos of how so many are reacting, what they are doing to the town, these are not people who want change these are people who want to cause havoc because they are criminals.

If you burn down a store in a riot, you are a criminal.
If you burn police cars in a riot, you are a criminal.
If you throw rocks and debris at news crews, you are a criminal.

You don't get a free walk because you are mad at injustice(this isn't even true, the grand jury did their job and found lack of evidence). All I know is I don't stand with the rioters at all. Fuck um, burn your own city down. Destroy your own livelihood and that of small business owners. Go fuck yourselves. They don't deserve change.

In one study, all white juries convicted black defendants at a 16% higher rate than juries with even a single black juror.

No matter which way you spin it, that implies there's some imperfections in that system, no?

I've sat through jury selection, and been dismissed more than once for being attentive and articulate. I personally don't have much faith that a modern American jury can determine guilt or innocence any better than a roll of the dice, but that's just me.
