Fidel Castro

Been to Cuba many times.

I find it is generally better than most other Carribean countries like Jamaica, DR, etc. People are way nicer too.

I'm sure America will find a way to fuck it up again.

It is also a far cry from freedom if people are willing to get on an un-seaworthy vessel to try to cross the open water in hopes that they don't get caught. They are risking death, or prison time if they are caught in exchange their freedom.

Slavery comes in different forms. Some would say if they are not free, they are a slave.

One could easily say the US is a slave plantation since most of its citizens are slaves to debt.

I'm simply correcting the ignorant and unfactual statement that Cubans are not allowed to leave. They are. I've met many who travel to the Us and other places. By and large most either prefer to leave Cuba for better opportunity, but that isn't any different than any other Caribbean country.

You don't say?

:rofl Holy shit, that's funny.

Technically Obama should be in that pic since he's still President.

Many are not allowed to leave. That is a fact. They are not free to travel, and it is considered a crime if they try when they haven't been given permission. If you think that is not a worthy criticizm for a government, that is your perogative. Cubans are celebrating in the streets in Florida because Castro is dead. That should tell you something about how his people feel about him.

Fuck it up again? You like driving fifty year old cars because you can't get anything newer? Making $100 a month if you a Doctor? :rofl:rofl

People depend on tourists for dollars.

Tourism in many cases is a dead end economic model for developing countries

Miami Cubans are not representative of all Cubans in the US. The older expats living in Miami were the wealthy, white Cubans who lost all their privilege when Castro took power. I don't give a shit about them

Castro's regime is definitely worthy of criticism, as all governments are. But not the uninformed hyberbole rampant it in this thread. Cuba is a far cry from the totalitarian government of North Korea. And it isn't a slave plantation.

I love the castro apologists, I hope trump makes Marco Rubio ambassador to cuba. I went to Cuba once when I was 16, awesome people, but I hate the government. Still remember drinking beer from a waxed brown paper cup and pushing a dead car. Yeah castro was a kinder and gentler dictator. Obama sold us out again on his policies, between cuba, iran, gm, solyndra, bank bailouts, etc. Obama might have imitated castro with the executive orders.

Interesting thread. Good different perspectives. Just like the news, hard to separate the truth from the opinions. :laughing

Somebody told me about this book "the farm" (I think). How the pigs take over and end up being just as bad. In this case, they were even worse. And after the main pig clinched to power by any means necessary, he appointed his brother to keep going. The guy in Zimbabwe looks like an amateur next to this one.

I'm fairly left-leaning in terms of politics, but can't excuse any dictator. Pinochet, to use an example from the right, at the very least stepped down (after giving himself immunity for all his crimes against the Chilean people). I was glad he did (and also a bit glad when he died).
