..:: FIFA World Cup 2014 ::..

Atletico I believe. It will be a close game though I think.

The only problem my team will have is the huge absence of Xabi Alonso to control the deep midfield. Isco, Illara, and Modric will need to step up big time in order to contain Koke and Turan and free Di Maria, Bale, and Ronaldo from sitting too deep. It will be a fantastic match.

Now let's get this World Cup thing started!

Costa had no business playing...it gave the 1st part of the game a weird and disjointed feel, IMO.

anyways, any reactions to Donovan being left off the Yanks? I've read several reports, and the one that makes most sense is saying that Klinsmann is planning on giving younger players a chance to expose themselves to the highest level of competition, to prepare them for 2018. that sucks, but maybe it's a good idea since getting through the group of death is no sure thing.

With Costa and the Turk on the bench, and RM bringing out the big guns, Atletico had no chance. Still, it was a good game and Bale proved that he's worth $150 million...

Sounds like you are minimizing the fact that Marcelo was still not at full strength and only played latter third of the game, Pepe was out with injury and replaced by a super inexperienced Varane, and Xabi Alonso was missing and replaced by a barely-recovered Sami Khedira.

Even with Turan and Costa out, the teams were at similar strength.

Oh, and Ramos and Di Maria were absolute beasts out there. Elite quality of football from the first whistle to the end by those two.

USMNT didn't look all that cohesive last night. still, they got the W so that's good. hopefully they'll start working together better in the upcoming friendlies.

I always say that these test matches you should take with a grain of salt because lineups aren't set, players are adjusting to eachother, fitness levels are low, etc.

But OMG, they looked horrendous. It was hard to watch at times. They were telegraphing their passes, lacked quality of first touch, didn't move well in space, and lacked creativity. I know they will improve, but I wonder if they will even be able to muster a tie. I hope they pull it together. And I think they can, based on what I did see working. They have strong leadership at goalie, they were able to adapt late in the game by using flanks and building confidence, and they have a few young players that were not afraid to create space and chances on their own. Klinsmann should be able to get some production out of this squad yet. I'll be pulling for them secondarily.:thumbup

Even with Marcelo at half strength, he played incredibly well from the moment he hit the pitch. Fantastic player.

I agree. Watching some of these guys develop over the last 4-6 years has been really amazing. Can't wait for Morata and Jesé to really flourish like Marcelo and Di Maria have at the Bernabeu.

YEAH!!! I know this team is a far cry from the outright deadliness of the 2008 Euro squad, but they are better in other ways. Can't wait for them to play their game in Brasil all the way to the trophy (I hope).

Grains of salt for the USA friendly Vs Azerbaijanianjabaz (sp?)

- training camp consisted of 10 days of two hard practices every day. most guys are gonna be a bit worn down
- still working on the lineups and, more specifically, the formation (4-4-2 square or 4-2-3-2 diamond?)
- Azerbaj played 10 back basically the whole game and never tried to set the tempo (the opposite of what the WC play is all about)
- that wind was classic 'Stick! =)

also lol at JK can't be fired hahaha

All true. Plus no Dempsey. I was hoping to see a bit more Green to see mroe how he plays. Still theres a lot of gaping holes on the US side as it stands. That said in Jurgen we trust.

anyone know of a decent, kid friendly establishment i could watch the Cup in?

looking to avoid the Buffalo Wild Wings etc experience in favor of a more pub like atmosphere. a lot of the restaurants i've been in with TV's have adamantly refused to have the volume up (i've been asking around). =/

looking from SF down to San Mateo-ish.
