First track day - best times?

yah all the pics he seems to be in the 2:10ish range

HUGE gap between 1:59 and 2:10, but even anything sub 2:10 your first day out is really fast so he obviously has a knack for the track :thumbup

He is photographed at 2:09:27, then again at 2:13:40 - that's 4 min 13 seconds. Assuming he's not doing 4 minute laps, that is an average of 2:06 per lap.

Everyone in those pictures are straight up and down..could be parade laps or something...if he was doign 2:06s he would not be up and down through T13 like that

which R1 was it? i was there and i saw the others R1's....i didnt see any other super fast ones.. if he cracked a 1:59 for his first trackday i am impressed... but a bit skeptical.

i mean i was passing most of the other r1's until i ate shit that is... :p

2:10 is A group pace. If that is his first track day he should become a professional racer.

is 2:10 really that impressive on a 1000 though? T-hill is a pretty fast track and theres room to crack it open so youre going to get decent times

I never believe my XT unless I see at least 3 laps in a row that are consistent. So if I see 2:15, 1:56, 2:25, 2:14 then I don't strut around telling people that I threw down a 56. But if I see 1:58, 1:57, 1:57, 1:59 then I know the times are fairly accurate. By the way, last time Chris had the RFID system up and running I compared my XT to the RFID system and they were within a couple hundreths of a second to each other.

I never believe my XT unless I see at least 3 laps in a row that are consistent. ...r.

Can you elaborate? Is there some logical and scientific reason for the XT to trigger incorrectly? I've had mine not trigger, but I can't recall there being goofy lap times I couldn't account for.

I'm asking sincerely, not to bash your post. I am just wondering if I should take the 1:47 picture off my screen saver...:mad

Its an optical sensor...if there is a rider between you and the beacon it can miss a lap...perhaps if it reflects off a shield it can get shot down the front straight and triggered early or someone can play a practical joke n a session and turn on a second beacon at the beggining of the front straight so everyone feels like heros :rofl

Considering a 1:47 would beat out the guys who podium in the afms formula pacific class, I'd be willing to bet it was a false reading :cool

Obviously, I was just kidding about the 1:47... and I understand about non triggers, like if another bike is between the transmitter and the receiver.

But the guy posting about false readings was suggesting there could be several seconds of inaccuracy. Like he would normally do a 1:59 but would suddenly get a 1:56 in a string of 2:15's. That example seemed far fetched (to me, with all due respect) although the second beacon would certainly explain a big difference like that.

I'm not a physicist so I don't know how plausible the reflecting beam theory is. I suppose that could happen but I can't see that being more than a second or so difference given the distance travelled at the speed where the beacon is set up. If Stephen Hawking is on BARF, please confirm.

I'll just assume that my 1:47 is good... I am the #1 plate holder in my kitchen after all...

Don't ask me why it happens, but it does. Regularly. I've had to start deleting sessions from the timer because it's full, so I've had plenty of experience with it. I wish I knew why it false triggered, but I guess it wouldn't help.

Wow, there seems to be a lot of haters out there. What is this; if a guy goes fast on his first trackday then he's lying.

Let me set the record straight, this is Ken (or Kenny as he called me), the instructor that was working with him. Cody if I remember his name correctly came to PTT for his first trackday on the recommendation of a guy called Harley. After the riders meeting we always have a track orientation class for first time riders so that they can get information on the track before they go out. I have been with PTT now for about 3 years and I can say that I have never seen him there before. He asked a bunch of questions and listened carefully. I didn't see him until about the 3rd session when Michael Earnest asked if I could take him out in the A group because it seemed that he was learning quickly and was already in the low 2:10's. The next A group came up and we headed out. We were moving at about a 2:05 to 2:10 pace and I brought him in to have him watch out for a couple areas’ where he was making mistakes. After that I sent him back out to work on those area's and said that we'd ride again later. I caught back up to him out on the track and followed him a bit (not sure if he knew I was there) and could see that he had fixed his problem areas. After riding I looked at his lap timer and we were moving in the consistent 2:01's and I believe the best of that session was a 2:01. Later on that day he came up to me and showed me that he had posted a 1:59. Now to be honest I was not out on track at that time but I do know that he was able to run 2 flat so a quick dip in to the 59's was not hard to believe.

The guy can scoot so, to all you haters out there, don't be so quick to fly the BS flag on him. If you like, you can come out on the 28th July to T-Hill with us and watch for yourself. I'll be there and I know he'll be there too.

OK, that's an honest answer and I appreciate that. It may be an issue with placement on the bike or who knows.

I'll just sell the mofo thing and make my dad stand in the hot pit with a couple of stopwatches and a clipboard. Keep the old man sharp.

What about the second beacon on the grassy knoll?

I wouldnt say hate, I would say skeptical. In your three years of instructing how mang guys have turned 1:59s on their first day out?

I would invite him back out ASAP and get some afm plates for him, the rider obviously has a lot of talent if he can do that on a stock R1. With a well prepped buy he could be on the podium very quickly!

(and we are all slow and jealous) :laughing

Well here is the problem, and I told him this, Just because he nocked off all that time on his first day doesn't mean it's always going to be like that. Now the time drops are going to become few and far between and he's going to have to work for it. I know he's going to be back for the Fast Way School on the 28th. We'll see how he does then. He's a small guy too, like 140lbs or something so he has that advantage on the straights. Lucky bastard, I'm like 200lbs.

not all of them.

dude was moving pretty good...especially if it was first trackday

I have seen one guy do that. It's not a common thing. I suspect the guy is a motocross racer, by the way. Just a guess.
