Flashers while riding!!!

I agree with your post, with the exception of hi-viz gear. Brightly colored gear has, as far as I know, never irritated a single car driver. The same can not be said for flashers, headlight modulators, high beams and the like. While there is no compelling evidence that hi-viz gear increases rider safety, it certainly doesn't bother anyone.

The advocation of non-intrusive visibility. :thumbup

I get it OP. Someday, when someone is trying to get their pregnant wife to the hospital on the back of a motorcycle and people won't move over, and her water breaks and amniotic fluid pours all over the back tire, and they lose traction and high side into your truck, you could spill your coffee all over your pants. And then they will RUE THE DAY they used flashers for no good reason. Reap the whirlwind! Reap it!

This seems far-fetched. Also, you could just use a travel mug.

I partly agree with you. I have a contigo mug. No spill without pressing button.. Put to mouth, press botton, and sip.. :teeth I bet its too difficult to comprehend for you. :twofinger

I have no problem with high viz clothing, and I would actually recommend it..

Flashers and modulators help promote safety as much as loud pipes. When I split lanes I don't expect cars to move over.. In fact I wish I can tell them not to, incase another car or bike is on the other side. Id feel terrible to help cause an accident in that manner.

I make the judgement if my bike can split safely or not, with the amount of space given. Most of the time Id pass or split, by the time a driver is aware, Im already out from the side of their vehicle.

My bike doesn't even have flashers so it's a bit of a moot point for me. :)

I am disappoint. I thught this thread would be about Valgar riding around in a kilt.

It irritates me! Total fashion no-no!

But only when I'm driving a car.

And sipping coffee. Caffeine does funny things.

Yes, but you are a special case. Not everyone is the delicate flower that you are, hon. :kiss

I'm sitting in my warm truck every morning, sipping my coffee during my commute to work (on 880).

:facepalm

:shhh, OP. If you want to be yet another distracted driver, perhaps you ought to keep that to yourself. :laughing

It doesn't bother me and I think I do notice them sooner.

Only seen it heading toward the GG Bridge in Marin County.

Tried it once or twice and felt a bit silly to be honest.

What makes you think that people who have their flashers on while splitting expect drivers to move out of their way? Maybe they just want to be seen so someone doesn't abruptly change lanes in front of them.

Also, you might want to do a little research on your assumption that modulators are as worthless as loud pipes for safety.

Dammit! I just chew the grounds and let my saliva make coffee, that sounds much better :).

Frankly, I notice splitters with loud pipes sooner too. Probably because my brain is tuned to the key of motorcycle. If you're looking for splitters, you'll probably notice them sooner if they're loud, bright, or flashy (wheelie for safety!). If you're oblivious to splitters, you probably won't. If someone feels more comfortable splitting with flashers, and doesn't behave any less sensibly than they would otherwise, fine with me. Wear your lucky underpants too, it can't hurt.

Flashers, high beam, hi viz, super bight neon mohawk...no biggie. Just ride safe

1) I don't believe the thread title has enough exclamation points on it.

2) If it rustled your jimmies enough to notice the motorcyclist, then mission accomplished? I don't do it, but I follow the logic, similar to headlight modulators, I guess? I'll take annoying people who can see me over being invisible any day.

My research came from years of personal experience. Some people pick and choose what they want to see. Just like in your almost crash thread I read this morning. I wouldn't doubt you made eye contact with the driver. Im sure he had other things running in his mind and it does not make up for him pulling out in-front of you.

I even made eye contact and with a driver signaling into my lane. She looked right at me and still decided to change lanes. Of course I just scoot aside and gassed out of the impact zone.

In your case go ahead and get hid's and leave it on highbeams and modulate them. Flashers with super-bright LED's would work also. Gut your cat and get a shorty pipe. Screw driving defensively because motorcycles rule the road.:hail

This flasher trend is stupid IMO, I lived in SoCal for 8 years and never saw any riders doing it. Intelligent riders get headlight modulators if they're really concerned about safety.

The flasher is a warning to people that means "I kind of don't know what the fuck i'm doing".

You have this crazy idea that people who ride with flashers, headlight modulators, high beams, loud pipes, etc.. have a certain disregard for riding defensively and safely. Why not do both? Does it bother you that much to see lights blinking? Why not look at it, appreciate you noticed it and that others might have as well, and carry on about your coffee-sipping-while-driving day? As stated earlier, there are A LOT worse riders and drivers alike out there than ones who ride with their flashers.

This flasher trend is stupid IMO, I lived in SoCal for 8 years and never saw any riders doing it. Intelligent riders get headlight modulators if they're really concerned about safety.

Are flashers not effective as modulators, or is it because you think it's tacky? Are we concerned about effectiveness or appearance? I'm just sincerely asking a question.

Dude it's common sense. Even the weakest headlight is 10 times brighter than POS flashers. And it's higher as well.

So you're saying turn signals are ineffective? I'd have to disagree. I notice turn signals (or 4-way flashers) even in my mirrors. Now you can say modulators work better*, and even then, only in certain situations. Do modulators help people see you from the back?

But to say that flashers don't do anything without any credible evidence that supports that statement is just silly.

*Modulators only work for those who are ahead of your headlight. They do nothing for side and rear visibility. Flashers are all 4 corners of your bike.
