Flashers while riding!!!

In Europe many use flashers while splitting... it seems to improve safety and lets other drivers know not to switch lanes.

BTW, having flasher on a bike is a great idea, not for lane splitting, but when you spot a hazard ahead and are slowing down on the freeway for example or are forced to stop in an area where you fear getting rear ended such as at a mid block crosswalk in the suburbs at dusk or out in the twisties when there is a road obstruction, (ie. knucklehead pulling 6 point U turn around a blindish corner).

All bikes should have them.

From what I've seen, splitting is done significantly differently in Europe... such as between cars going opposite directions

So let me get this right you were driving your truck and got flashed and didn't like so it was a dude and not some hot chick?

I'm sitting in my warm truck every morning, sipping my coffee during my commute to work (on 880).

:facepalm

:shhh, OP. If you want to be yet another distracted driver, perhaps you ought to keep that to yourself. :laughing

I don't think sipping coffee is considered to be 'distracted driving'. Kinda weakens the statement when you include stuff like that. :dunno
I'd like to assume OP is capable of getting a cup out of the holder without looking, and with the cool little push-to-drink button he seems to be doing his part by paying attention to driving and not coffee spilling.

Ha-ha. A darn good friend that says a small puff of MJ before driving doesn't impair him. Everything is possible. :dunno

Same here and gladly give OP the benefit of the doubt, but how many accidents have happened because of little innocuous things like sipping coffee, turning up the volume, rolling down the window, etc? If OP wants to cast judgment onto others, perhaps it'd be better to do it from the church altar.

Yeah.. I can even change radio stations while driving, and only one hand on the steering wheel imagine that. Sometimes I seek a thrill and ride a motorcycle with one hand. Why dont we all drive with our emergency flashers on. Why is it ok to do it on a moto.

I don't use flashers but I don't see the difference between that and headlight modulators (which people here love).

Or high viz gear, auxiliary lighting for commuting, tail light flashers, etc for that matter.

+100

EDIT: OP, I'd be more concerned about you sipping on your coffee while driving to work.

Distracted driving > riding with flashers on for visibility.

Well, in that case doing anything else while driving would be considered distracting: Blinking, yawning, sneezing (ooh, specially those who "multi-sneeze" 5 or 6 times in a row), scratching an itch, listening to the radio, thinking about lunch...

Its also completely illegal, guarantees a ticket and pisses off non riding motorists - ask me how I know :laughing

Once I had some girls show me their tits while riding.

This thread is disappointing.

Same here, car full of late teen girls on 680. Two flashed me as I rode alongside :teeth :party

They probably would have had a fit if they know how old the guy in the power rangers suit and dark visor was :rofl

I used them a lot when lane sharing at night, in the rain on 101 or 280. I used them on Hwy 35 when the fog was very heavy, too. I have only ever owned one bike with flashers, but have done a LOT of lane-sharing over the years, including in very bad weather with limited visibility. Had I had flashers on other bikes I would have put them on whenever I wanted to enhance my visibility to others.
I don't see that this would rub motorists the wrong way either. You would think that they would appreciate a visual head's up when you are coming through in poor conditions. I don't see the benefit in fair weather though, since a headlight should be adequate.
I disagree with the high beam proponents. I hate it when I am blinded by an intense headlight in my side view mirrors. Who wants blind drivers anyway?

As for running with flashers on while sharing...

If you don't like it, don't do it.

Since I don't commute anymore, or have a "running bike" with flashers, I reckon I won't be doing it.

But if I do, I don't give a shite what anyone thinks about it; since I am the one that is responsible for getting myself home alive.
