Genesis. Cars not the band.

I'm not surprised. I recall telling a few people that Hyundai was making giant leaps in quality with each generation of car they made. I made the statement a decade ago, that the company would be on par with Honda/Toyota in the next 2-3 generations.

I also remember seeing a documentary of the company. The founder definitely had/has the desire to be the best at whatever he sets their focus on.

What years are cars like hyundai and kia not really shitty vehicles? Last time I was in a kia was I think around 2011 and it was an optima 4cyl and it was pretty lame. Last hyundai would be an excel. :laughing

I am really hoping that Genesis will actually make some of the concepts they have been putting out. I would definitely like something like this as a city car.

you probably could (have) (unless you're thinking of your wallet) but Jalopnik reviews do mention that SOMETHING is OFF on that car b/c it's a Buick. I swear, there is someone in GM up in Detroit, for decades, that seems to WANT to have models out for sale that are a copy of something BUT f-ed up in one corner case or another.
Hearsay , Jalopnik :dunno but I have seen exactly one on the road, maybe there's a reason...

This jalopnik guy liked it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/jalopn...ick-regal-tourx-wagon-what-ive-1835082720/amp

It’s a popular car as an Opel and a Vauxhall, but we Americans love our crossovers of late. I’ve seen 2, both in the Santa Cruz area. A black one that looked really good, but I’d ever want to own a black car, and a white one. We don’t even have a Buick dealer around here, after the guy I worked for died his wife sold everything off.

I thought Hyundai/Kia had a lawsuit against them for crappy engines failing. Forget the details

This entire thread makes me sad since I own a Land Rover.
But I sort of knew this already.

Full size sedan still isn't cheap, I guess compared to an LS500 its a little bit better deal. But when you're in that echelon of car buying, whats $20k?

It’s closer than that, sort of. The Genesis G90 would be the one going head to head against the LS500. The Lexus starts at $75k and can get optioned to right around $110k. The G90 starts at $75k and stops at $79k. There’s really no options other than the V8 and AWD.

Now, how nice the “stripper” LS500 is compared to the already loaded G90? I don’t know. But I damn sure know that a fully loaded LS500 is a legit competitor against the gold standard of full size luxury sedans, the S-class. I looked at the new G90 they had in the showroom, very very nice inside...but just like I thought of the Equus when it first came out, it’s no S-class.

That said, the car I’m looking at is the G70. Which I’m not even sure is classified as a mid sizer since it’s competition is listed as the 3-series and C-class.

had a client a few months ago with a 2016 kia with 62k and motor let go. kia denied warranty because they were the 2nd owner. they were told only original owner gets 100k warranty

While they are one of my favorite bands (post Peter Gabriel),..

...Alcantara like headliner, quilted Nappa leather seats, 700+ watt Lexicon audio system, of course all the usual driver assist systems available today, and for the first 3 years all maintenance is covered and they come get the car from you and drop it back off. On paper and kicking tires in the lot, it’s fantastic. Not sure if it really drives as nice as a 3 series BMW, but I have a feeling this is where is will come up short.

I’m actually going to be picking up a new daily driver in August, and this thing is going to be on my list of things to consider now.

They certainly seem to have stepped up their game over the last few years, but I love my old Dodge. I may just keep it forever.

I own a Jeep, but I knew what I was getting in to when I bought it.

Shockingly, Chrysler offered (offers still I think) a full boat, factory, LIFETIME extended service plan for it, and I bought it for $2K when I bought the jeep. It didn't cover a piece of trim that popped off the side, but it covers pretty much everything else.

With recent air conditioning shenanigans (which tend to be labor intensive), I think it finally paid off.

But, I love the car. It's an amazing car. The service plan is a security blanket.

Don't get me wrong, my Evoque in my opinion is still the best looking compact SUV made, and it's been good to us so far, but I also knew what I was getting into. It's not cheap to have serviced, but it hasn't broken down out of warranty yet... Yet.

If you intend to drive your car into the ground I still would go Japanese. How many 200k mile Hyundai's are out there? What does the car feel like as it ages in, compare a 200k mile Lexus vs Hyundai, which feels like it has another 100k mile left. I will keep my stupid old cars, putting 100 large up for a car is a losing proposition.

Probably if I get to 200k in my Dodge without crashing it, I will be looking at my 3rd transmission. :laughing

Rob, if you're leasing, then go for it; outright purchase, buy 2 year old, used. The depreciation on Hyundai/ Kia is almost as bad as BMW. It's super horrendous...brand cache for these cars is abysmal. No one wants them used, period. Hyundai should just build cars for Lexus...

Yeah I know. As mentioned earlier, there’s still a “perception” about the Korean stuff that they haven’t shaken yet. I’m sure that kills their resale. Plus I believe that Hyundai does fleet sales (rental cars) which absolutely kills resale values.

So long story short, my highly subsidized Acura lease, I’ll be letting my wife have when her Audi lease is up. I sure as shit ain’t going to daily the ZR1, so I’ll be on the hunt in a handful of months. But right now, I’m all over the place. Sedan, luxury sedan, hatchback (Civic), full size truck, wait for the Bronco....yeah I don’t really know what I want yet.

Choices are good, right? But, I was that same when I bought a "new" before the Jeep. I was all over the map. I was in an Explorer at the time, and ended up with...another Explorer. I tried others, but saw an off lease Explorer, this time w/4WD, and the prices was right, so I just bought it. Didn't even hem or haw over it.

Weird that there a 43 point gap from Genesis to Hyundai, yet only 13 from Lexus to Toyota, 0 between Honda & Acura, and 18 from Nissan to Infiniti. Infiniti being worse that Nissan is odd also.

Not buying that Genesis is deserving of being at the top of the heap for reliability.

Using this criteria, I can see where Genesis would do well. (bold added by me)

The study, now in its 31st year, measures the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of their three-year-old vehicles. The 2020 study measures problems in model-year 2017 vehicles. A lower score reflects higher quality, and the study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories.
